Another theory on obesity

There are many theories on the causes of obesity. Some say too much fat, too many calories. Ironically, many of the modern diets have generally failed to fix the problem.

The above video is long. For people who will reply with tl;dr here is the synopsis:

Watch it if you get a chance. I really enjoyed it and found it both eye opening and informative, without needing some shock factor or sex to sell it. It follows a simple premise and makes a lot of sense.

I'm fixin to get through with physical therapy and then I'll start to use the stationary bike and elliptical until I get 100 % better.
Can you swim at all...that's great cardio and would be 100% footless use if you use a pull bouy?

At least in the food science area. I have a degree in chemistry and I work in food science (specifically sugar substitutes), father is a PhD food scientist and mother is a Registered Dietician. I kinda know food Wink

Is Splenda better then full sugar? What sugar substitute do you like best?

Yes but since I put on weight I don't like how I look. Sadwalk My gym has a full size pool and a resistance pool.

All I know is I'll get kicked out of the military if I don't get back in shape soon. Frown

Aww don't worry about how you look, the most important thing is getting back to where you were, and if you do it swimming then you'll def look even better in a swim suit when you're done 'cause you've built up the proper swimming muscles Wink

Watched it and glad I did. I had a cracker problem (cheese its, wheat thins, goldfish, you name it) a few years ago and cut them out but didn't lose any weight (6ft 200 lbs), i'm going to cut out a lot of sugars this time and see what happens.

Question, if we add fiber to our juice would it not make it any worse than fruit?

Never mind, the way fruit is designed it limits the sugar, juice on the other hand takes several pieces of fruit to create a glass thus more sugar so it's bad even if you add fiber. Just as eating several pieces of fruit would be.

How do you mean better? It doesn't get digested by your body, (therefore no caloric intake) you just poop it straight out. Sucrolose (splenda) does replace 2 of the hydroxyl groups on sucrose with Cl's which makes it indigestible. It hasn't really shown any problems health-wise, so as a sugar substitute it's pretty good and you don't need a lot to make something sweet.

I don't care for aspartame (mainly just taste-wise) but it can break down into methanol and formaldehyde...but it exits your system before that happens. I still think it's gross though...

I'm always a fan of regular sucrose, but I'd rather sucralose for complete calorie free stuff. Saccharin is calorie free but to keep it stable most add maltodextrin to it which has calories.

I always go by everything in moderation, so if your replacing sugar in your coffee or tea with sucralose then that should be fine, but don't go baking tons of sweets and stuff with it and eat all of it often and think you'll be fine.

No. Instead I decided I don't care why other people are obese.

Iagree

I am happy in knowing that my kids are learning what to do and how to eat to keep from being a statistic. Most of all, they know they could still eat sugary goodness and not worry about all the hype.

Regardless, it's a very informative video.

I'd still recommend watching it.

I have some sugary snacks in the house but since I don't "make a monumental deal" about it my DD eats it here and there. I never had to set limits so it's not like a big deal in my house. She was introduced to everything we ate when she was a baby so she now is used to eating normal meals without a problem. Dontknow
