GUN TALK: What are SDers packin'?

8,081 3,271 February 11, 2012 at 07:56 PM in Chat (3)
List what you're packin', and/or what you're looking forward to packin'.
  • Remington 870 Express Magnum 20ga
  • Springfield XD Sub–Compact 9mm

And I'm thinking about buying/building an AR–15. Big Grin Whee

I love it. It's definitely a little "sharper" than a full-frame, but that's true with any caliber (but seriously only a "little"). The ergonomics are amazing, and it's really accurate. The only downside I've found with it is that it's hard to load the full 10+1 at first. You have to get the magazine spring used to the capacity.

Good to know, thanks. Good to hear about the ergonomics, as the ergonomics of some guns definitely do not agree with me. Specifially talking about the grip angle of the Glocks. XD is slightly better for me, but only slightly.
That last round in many of the "hi-cap" magazines nowadays are quite difficult to load.

No, it's hard to load the magazine. You have to put some real thrust behind it.

No, I mean actually loading it into the weapon. You have to give the mag a good shove the first dozen times you load it with a full capacity.

Interesting. Have not heard that before. Good that it eventually becomes easier.

Just noticed this cycling the XD, although first thought was that it would ease up after it had been broken in. This thing barely looks used.

Thanks for the link. Gotta love the last post in that thread though. Way to not even address the issue.

FWIW, it now seats fine with no issues. It just needs to get... loosened up.

Would you choose a Mossberg 500 over a Remington 870? The Remington is almost $75 more. And would you get a 10ga, 12ga, 16ga, 20ga, 28ga or a 410?
I personally prefer the Mossberg, but that's not to say the Remington is a bad choice either. Go to the store to check both out and see which one you like better. Stick with either a 12 or 20.

Revolver? How about this one!

I sooo want one of those.

Anyone carry an Springfield XD compact pistol. I plan on getting my Concealed Carry and wanted to see if anyone had experience with this pistol.
I got one in .40 with the intention of it being my carry gun. It shoots great, but for me it's uncomfortable to carry and I can't find a holster that works good with it. I actually find it easier and more comfortable to carry my Glock 17 rather than the XD.

Not all states are like the PRK and mandate a waiting period. Hell, I don't even have to get a background check because I have a state-issued carry permit.
Me too, it actually make it too easy to buy (I wind up spending too much money) but if you plan on buying multiple guns it's the only way to go. I can go in a store and be out in less than 15 minutes with a rifle, shotgun, or pistol.

Anyone handle the Kahr CW40? I went to the local gun shop today and felt it would be a decent weapon to carry concealed.

They do indeed feel quite nice. Whether they are more or less reliable than other things is a matter of debate I think, though, but it definitely feels and looks good.

If you haven't shot a .40 in a small gun, I'd rent or borrow one or at least read lots of reviews and comparisons first. You might not only not like the recoil, but, even worse, you might not shoot well with it. ymmv.

Just to second this, as it is hugely important. Best bet is to shoot the gun you are considering getting. Barring that, reviews from people who know what they are talking about. Not necessarily the kid with the tactical vest and shooting glasses behind the counter at the gun shop. Keep your eyes open at the range. If you see someone with a gun you are considering, wait for them to finish up then ask them about it. A couple of weeks ago, a guy I saw at the range let me put some rounds through his HK P2000, just because I asked him what he thought about the gun and how it shot. That was enough for me to figure out that it isnt the gun for me. Not enough grip for my taste.
What good is having a gun, if you cant shoot it accurately?
