PET Scan - & Yes I'm Going to Beat This !!!

21,228 1,397 June 19, 2012 at 10:06 AM in Chat
I'm going to have a PET Scan done, and they gave me a list prior to the night before of what I can and cannot eat. Has anyone ever had a PET Scan done before?

I'm curious as this list of what I'm able to eat and not able to eat is rather odd to say the least.

The evening prior to the study eat a meal that is high in protein, such as fish, meat, chicken and eggs. Do not have any bread, pasta, rice or starches such as corn and potato's. Do not eat foods that are high in sugar content, such as desserts. Only green vegetables are acceptable. I'm able to drink plain water plain water after midnight, and the morning of the test.

So I'm trying to figure out with fish, meat and/or chicken - what I am able to add to a meal the night before Dontknow right now - maybe because my mind is a little boggled with everything I'm going through - and I'm trying to prepare ahead of time for this, to get the right foods in the house. I have meat and/or chicken to make the night before. The only thing I can think to add to this is a large salad (for greens only) but would have to leave off many of the usual things they put into the salad where I would normally order this from, onions, tomato's, crouton's, cheese, etc. So I guess I would need to ask for just a plain salad with cucumbers in it, as those are the only "green item" they put in the salad, unless they have broccoli which they could add as another "green item".

I don't eat peas, asparagus, or things like that Yuk So any suggestions for me?

Anyone been through a PET Scan, and had to follow this dietary restriction before?

I've read up on what it's all about and what they will do that morning, putting the dye into me, to see what "lights up" - so I get it, and understand that certain foods will give a false positive on this - hence the restrictions.

Help would truly be appreciated Embarrassment

It's hard to believe with all of this testing, especially the PET Scan, that I have another Doctor telling me it's inconclusive as to whether or not this nodule in my lung is "cancer" or not. Apparently it is too small to be picked up by the PET Scan accurately, so again I'm back to being monitored by CT Scans for this, to ensure it does not change. I can't seem to get cut a break here with a distinct diagnosis one way or the other. But at least I'm not going in for an operation, which is good!!

Today was the Gastric Stomach Emptying test, and I must say Radioactive Scrambled Eggs on toast, with a glass of water, isn't as tasty as one would think Sick Plus, all that waiting time between scans Yawn Now to wait and see if they are able to get the CD and Report done by the end of today, so I can see what came of this. A friend recently had this done, and it took 33 hours for her stomach to empty OMG Her's was a 2 days test, mine was a little over 4 hours this morning.

I'd just like to know right now, why I cannot gain weight, sigh.

Originally he was going to biopsy this nodule, but now has decided to wait until the next CT Scan, basing on it's size at this point in time.

My last doctor's appt. today, with all of these doctor's involved. This doctor has decided to run another series of blood work, OMFG, 13 tubes of blood were drawn today Faint I see him in 2 weeks to see what the outcome of this blood work is. He is actually testing me to see if someone is trying to poison me EEK! Now that is some skeery stuff to think about Scratchhead Maybe I need to take another look at my Life Insurance Policy Ermm

With the Gastric Stomach Emptying Test, that came back normal. This doctor feels that my system is acting hyper, eating up all the calories I'm in taking; that or something nefarious is going on here; which is why he is testing for "heavy metal poisoning".

laugh out loud When I told hubby Doc was looking into "Heavy Metal Poisoning" he said you really think I'm trying to kill you Ermm and I said well are you EEK! You have been doing a lot of the cooking since this all began ***hands on hips**** so what have you been feeding me and I note you aren't eating the same thing Coverlaugh

Yeah, I hope 13 turns out to be a lucky number. This Doc is an "Infectious Disease" Doctor, among other things; so if anyone can get to the bottom of this, he should be able to. He went over me with a fine tooth comb, and examined me in ways none of the other doctors did so Whee

He is looking at "Hyper Metabolism" as a possible answer to this, as well as doing additional cancer checks, with blood work that the other doctor's may have missed. He was none to happy they did not run certain blood work for this. He said it is too easy for certain types of cancer to hide, and some types of blood work will find it. So another 2 weeks laugh out loud But I'm not going to fret over this. It's like a game now, wait and see, and see and wait. But keep stacking up on the calories and hoping I gain more weight !!!

That boat trip is now on !!! We decided we are going and not letting this stop us Nono2
