Let's say they didn't get a chance to reciprocate.Wouldn't that be kind of fun?

It's sad to say, but you're right. Most don't read it. I'm on my 6th turn through it, and I sit down every night with commentaries and read it chapter by chapter and book by book. And just like any debate, there are scholars on both sides. I believe that an entity that exists outside of time is not concerned with time. The seven days of creation do not have to be interpreted as 24 hours. In fact they can't be if you follow the story and see that the word "day" wasn't defined until the fourth "day" of creation. Again, science doesn't refute it because there is no age given to the earth in the bible, and we have no way of telling how much time there was from where Genesis 1 begins and where the reference to day and night appear on the 4th "day".
but the arguement posed by 6k year old eart christians as i will call them is that:

Quote :
Simply put, it came from the Bible. Of course, the Bible doesn't say explicitly anywhere, "the earth is 6,000 years old." Good thing it doesn't; otherwise it would be out of date the following year. But we wouldn't expect an all-knowing God to make that kind of a mistake.
God gave us something better. In essence, He gave us a "birth certificate." For example, using my personal birth certificate, I can calculate how old I am at any point. It is similar with the earth. Genesis 1 says that the earth was created on the first day of creation (Genesis 1:1–5 [biblia.com]). From there, we can begin calculations of the age of the earth.
Let's do a rough calculation to show how this works. The age of the earth can be estimated by taking the first 5 days of creation (from earth's creation to Adam), then following the genealogies from Adam to Abraham in Genesis 5 and 11, then adding in the time from Abraham to today.
Adam was created on Day 6, so there were 5 days before him. If we add up the dates from Adam to Abraham, we get about 2,000 years, using the Masoretic Hebrew text of Genesis 5 and 11.3 [answersingenesis.org] Whether Christian or secular, most scholars would agree that Abraham lived about 2,000 B.C. (4,000 years ago).
So a simple calculation is:
5 days
+ ~2000 years
+ ~4000 years
______________
~6000 years
At this point, the first 5 days are negligible. Quite a few people have done this calculation using the Masoretic text (which is what most English translations are based on) and, with careful attention to the biblical details, have arrived at the same time-frame of about 6,000 years, or about 4,000 B.C. Two of the most popular, and perhaps the best in my opinion, are a recent work by Dr. Floyd Jones and a much earlier book by Archbishop James Ussher (1581–1656):

I'm not a big fan of Bill Nye right now. He's really on the attack against Christians lately because "they don't believe science" which I find completely false. I think science compliments Christianity and doesn't contradict it. It's only a very small portion of people that see them as contradictory, and it's no reason to bash a person's religion just because a small amount of them disagree with you. Stick to science, Bill. You're good at it.
i think that it is unfortunate that you feel that way. I havent heard what he has been saying, but in general most scientists dont attacka religion as a whole, they attack a piece of information being spread by a specific group of people

i think Bill Nye does recognize that most christians are smart and intelligent and they do believe in medicine, astronomy, physics, etc which are science. There are definate points of contention with some specific groups of christians and other religions that science has disproven which he is at logger heads with...

again i dont know the details of whats happening and i dont know where you stand on the issues so its hard to comment more precisely

Negative. Since the first chapter states that he created it, but there's not defined time period between creation of the formless and void earth and when it was finally crafted as what it is now. We've already had this discussion. Furthermore, there's nothing in to address the universe -- only the earth.

Astronomy and physics were two of my favorite subjects in college. Since I wasn't majoring in them I didn't have many prerequisites to taking them. This allowed me to take 4000 level classes instead of building myself up. They were fascinating.

At first I was thinking maybe he just "mole hill" funny, but a quick search shows a LOT of people using the phrase as "mowhill". People, WTF is a "mowhill"? Come on now.

You can read some excerpts here [go.com]. I'm not sure if chewspam has actually watched it or is just going off what he read on theblaze.com.
