My husband has been having trouble keeping food down for months now. He has dropped below 130 pound now. His Gastroenterologist scoped both ends last month and ran a bunch of other test with no findings. So today we went in for a ultrasound on his tummy. We have not heard anything from his Doctor yet. I was looking over the technicians shoulder as she wrote her notes. She wrote that he appears to have a occlusion in his SMA.
I googled it and came back with Occluded Superior Mesenteric Artery Has anyone ever heard of this. It sounds like the cure is some sort of surgery to fix it. Tell me I'm wrong.

it will be el suck-o if it went ischemic in the meantime. Try calling tomorrow and seeing if you can get in earlier.
You might try making some Gatorade Popsicles to try to keep his electrolytes up. Something cool and refreshing might be easier for him to tolerate.
I will keep
I really like that idea for the electrolytes.
Great idea!
(BTW, I had Jello shots last night.

Cupcakes mentioned both MI & COPD. The first thing that comes to mind is atherosclerosis (possibly from smoking)...don't know if this is the case here. Cupcake will have to chime in.

Yes he smokes
We were told by phone that it is a partial occlusion of the SMA.
Yes he smokes
I am a physician myself, so I had my suspicion once you said both. Smoking would most likely be the lead risk factor when describing someone with a h/o of MI, COPD & occluded SMA (combined with other things - genetics, age, stress, etc). In other words (generally speaking, because I haven't seen him myself) I would guess the coronary vessels of the heart were exhibiting the atherosclerotic changes before - hence the multiple MI, and its possible the SMA is now the one showing the atherosclerotic changes.
Atherosclerosis is a normal physiological process as we all grow older, usually starts as early as late teens, early 20s, but certain things such as smoking, poor diet, or lack of exercise can speed up the process a bit.
That all being said, I hope he makes a speedy recovery once they check him out further and give him the appropriate care.

He's far too thin, like I was, and it's taking me quite a while to get my weight back up - and I didn't have heart issues like he has. So push please CC
