Carnival Triumph engine fire; lost power; tug boats pulling it to Mobile, AL.

The 500 or so McDonald's franchisees and executives onboard should at least be used to the conditions if they've spent much time in one of their restaurants.
We cruise on Carnival 5 months from today!
(different ship though)

You sound just like all the people (mainly girls, it seems!) on yahoo comments that said it's stupid that they couldn't send another cruise ship to pick up all these people when they were out at sea. And they said the same thing...that they're trying to save money. You have to think logically, not emotionally.

As previously announced, all 3,143 guests on board will receive a full refund of the cruise along with transportation expenses and reimbursement of all shipboard purchases during the voyage, with the exception of gift shop, art purchases and casino charges. All passengers will also receive a future cruise credit equal to the amount paid for this voyage.

"You wouldn't think after the ship nightmare, that on the bus ride to New Orleans, the bus would break down," Carnival passenger Jacob Combs said Friday, after the bus finally arrived in New Orleans.

This article [cnn.com] seems pretty informative.

Even minus those exceptions, there are a lot of things people could have spent money on on the ship.

It sucks that they have to take a bus out of town, but at least they are actually offering people a flight home after that. I don't understand why they are shipping people out of town first, but I haven't really been following closely.

Ah that's funny and sad. At least it was only a 45 minute delay on top of the ~2 hour drive. I imagine many just wanted to get home ASAP and the airport in New Orleans is the nearest one with the most available on-going flights. Judging from the departing flight schedule at http://www.mobairport.
