Formula 1 the 2015 edition ****Mercedes is suing their Senior Engineer**** (post 172)

Huh Scratchhead

Formula One racing's governing body, the FIA, has revealed details of a new Super Licence points system, making it harder for drivers to become eligible for F1 competition.

From 2016, drivers must have accumulated 40 points over a three-year period, with points allocation based on which other motorsport series they have participated in and the level of results they achieved.

Drivers will have also have to be at least 18-years old, have spent at least two years in junior single-seater categories, hold a valid road driver's licence and pass a test on the Formula One sporting regulations. The existing requirement of completing 300 kilometres in a recent F1 car also remains.

*snip*

If such a system had been in place ahead of 2015, new Toro Rosso signing Max Verstappen would be ineligible to race in F1 this year, having accrued just 20 points by finishing third in the 2014 FIA F3 European championship - the 17-year-old's only season of car racing to date.

They'll either run out of tracks to pay their stupid expensive bribes, I mean, fees, or they'll run out of teams that have patience to consistently throw away money faster than just burning it in a fire.
Dietrich Mateschitz acting the way he is might well be attributed to the fact that the Austrian GP wasn't well attended due to ticket costs, and the German GP is gone this year. Both of those are so much the core market of RB that without them he loses a LOT of marketing that his funding of TWO teams pays for.

People seem to forget, this is ONE owner funding TWO teams in the series.
Not ONE owner funding ONE team.

And as can be seen by the mess that was Sauber in Australia, it is very easy to be on the wrong side of the money war and anyone with knowledge knows that without the money from FOUR pay drivers that was spent by Sauber, they wouldn't be competitive this year.

When one of the four largest teams in your sport is talking about leaving because it doesn't make financial sense for them to stay, and the only two competitive teams are completely vertical integrated, it means your industry is broken and needs to be fixed.

For reference, this would be like Manchester United or the New York Yankees talking about leaving their leagues in comparison to Red Bull Racing leaving F1.

RBR hasn't been around all that long, but they are one of the largest sponsors of F1 through both car and track sponsorship.

DH and I looked into going to the F1 race in Austin. The flight wasn't the issue as we could work in a visit to my dad to be in Texas that week anyway. It was the cost of the tickets and transport to the race. Couldn't justify spending that much money for a partial view of the race. General admission on race day to the grounds (no seat) was $110 plus tax and fees! The cheapest bleacher seat (turns 4, 5, 9, 11) was $250 plus tax and fees. Then there's the shuttle fees each way. We're not spending over $700 for the two of us to see just a small part of the race.

I actually don't find ticket prices to be that bad for F1 Dontknow doing a weekend definitely makes more sense, general admission for $169 for all three days vs. $99 for Sunday only ($110 is with taxes and fees, says the website). Likewise I think the downtown shuttle for $10 per person round trip is pretty reasonable. Parking downtown last year I think was going for $20 or less.

The turn 12 seats are a bit pricey for what they are, IMO, especially the further north you go, which is all that's left. I'd step up to turn 15 before doing turn 12 again. (seats with backs and arms, better viewing angles, and other small things).

Turn 9 is a fantastic deal, IMO. From row 33 I could see all the way from turn 6, down to the hairpin at turn 11, and most of the back straight into turn 12 and the stadium section. that's a clear third of the track which nobody else gets.

I'm glad I went early and sat in the huge GA crowd at turn 1 last year...it's really something else, the energy is fantastic, but you really can't see anything

more so than F1, which ends up being some pretty long days for me to to feel like I'm getting my money's worth out of it, I'm looking forward to the Lone Star Le Mans weekend in September. that includes FIA WEC, which is quickly becoming a lot more interesting than F1. That includes a 6 hour day into night endurance race and fireworks, it's a pretty good time, IMO.

That's not as bad but we only wanted to do race day.

BTW, did you hear Button was given a five second penalty for crashing into Maldonado, which put him back a position. He was also given two points on his superlicense.

I hadn't heard that, although I can't argue with it, either. For once, it genuinely didn't seem to be Maldonado's fault laugh out loud

What's that saying? Even a broken clock gets a crash right twice once a season?

That was a spectacular blow up at just the right moment. A few seconds earlier and it would have really sucked for Ricciardo and Red Bull.

Maldonado didn't "crash" today, but he certainly wasn't incident free Bigeye

pretty good race overall, IMO. I could get used to these 10am start times, not looking forward to the European races when I have to be up before 7am to watch the race live
