Formula 1 the 2015 edition ****Mercedes is suing their Senior Engineer**** (post 172)

Huh Scratchhead

Formula One racing's governing body, the FIA, has revealed details of a new Super Licence points system, making it harder for drivers to become eligible for F1 competition.

From 2016, drivers must have accumulated 40 points over a three-year period, with points allocation based on which other motorsport series they have participated in and the level of results they achieved.

Drivers will have also have to be at least 18-years old, have spent at least two years in junior single-seater categories, hold a valid road driver's licence and pass a test on the Formula One sporting regulations. The existing requirement of completing 300 kilometres in a recent F1 car also remains.

*snip*

If such a system had been in place ahead of 2015, new Toro Rosso signing Max Verstappen would be ineligible to race in F1 this year, having accrued just 20 points by finishing third in the 2014 FIA F3 European championship - the 17-year-old's only season of car racing to date.

AFAIK, these are new ventures, so they wouldn't have brought money in for the Williams team in 2014.

There are five days in my life where i can tell you exactly where I was and exactly what I was doing.

The day President Reagan was shot, the day the space shuttle Challenger exploded on takeoff, the day Senna was killed, the day Earnhardt was killed, and 9-11.

Today is the 21st anniversary of one of those events, the death of Ayrton Senna.

that's true, I mostly just used that as an excuse to post the earnings story, since I didn't see it elsewhere in the thread. I'm not sure I really believe they'll ever make money, but maybe they'll prove me wrong.

The old saying goes, the best way to make $1 million in F1 is to start with $100 million...

laugh out loud

There's an old joke in Texas, about a rancher who won $20m in the lottery. When they asked the rancher what he was going to do with the money, he said he'd keep ranching until the money ran out.

with the market price of beef today, that rancher is making a killing.

$3 for a pound of ground beef?!?!? ludicrous.

btw, the fastest LMP1 lap at this last weekends WEC race at Spa was a 1:54:755 by one of the Porsche entries, or faster than a Manor Marrussia has ever run at the track in a race (and still 10 seconds a lap off the outright F1 lap record).

Poor Manor.

Please dear god don't let Haas run this poorly next year. (Remember, Manor is running the same Ferrari engines that Sauber is so amazingly better with this year)

From the top, I rather like the take on the McLaren curve into the side pods, but the effect is totally lost in the other views, only from the top did I make that connection Doh

I'll agree with people I saw posting on FB: it would have been nice had they tried to do a modern take that called back to the classic 80's era red and white Mclaren cars, although I realize that was tied to a specific sponsor. Could have been interesting, and it's worked well for Lotus, their new cars are almost as good looking as the old John Player cars.

nah, that's just lotus engineers making sure he will have traction since he runs in the grass and gravel more than the track at most events...

I can't imagine the skulls do much for the aerodynamic efficiency of the front wing... Cool laugh out loud

Fernando Alonso's Spanish Grand Prix [bbc.co.uk] retirement was caused by a tear-off strip from his own helmet visor blocking one of his rear brake ducts.

The odds of this happening are minuscule but the incident caused overheating and then total failure of the McLaren driver's rear brake system.

The Spaniard overshot his pit, forcing a mechanic to take avoiding action.

The team saw the tear-off as soon he retired and realised it had come from his helmet after further investigation.
