Q's CVS Lounge

6,510 5,400 October 6, 2015 at 03:21 PM in Cool (4) CVS
I changed the name of the thread because I think that Q's CVS Lounge gives a better representation of what the thread is about. This isn't a deals thread although I will sometimes be posting deals. I'll probably talk more about Transylvania and the stock market than I will about the drugstores but the main thing is that is that I want this to be a cool place to hang out.

Has anybody been shopping at Kroeger (Ralphs for me) this week and doing the Uniliever deals? Any tips? Jcdc pointed out the Ensure deal (it's cheaper at CVS with the crt but I can get more at Ralphs). There's also a free All wyb 2 Snuggles deal but I'm not sure how it prices out.

Ok, llama is on another thread that I posted on. Maybe he doesn't understand who Brucie is. Brucie is the Frankenstein monster from The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, which is a Canadian cult children's show from the 70's. Master and Igor have been exiled from Transylvania until they are able to repair Brucie but repairs are taking longer than expected. Now it all makes sense, right? laugh out loud

Did you see Storage Wars last night where Dave gets into a fight with Dan and Laura? Here's a recap. Dan (the auctioneer) missed Mary's bid and somebody else won the locker. Mary complained and then Dave jumped in and started giving Dan a hard time about it. Dave and Dan have some bad blood between them and they started going at it. Dan got right in Dave's face and Dave pushed him back. They were about ready to throw down but people ran over and held them back. Then Laura (Dan's wife) ran over and started punching Dave in the face while Dave was being held. Dave pushed Laura away hard and knocked her to the ground. Laura got up and started screaming at Dave and kicked him out of the auction. A new auctioneer took over and finished up the show.
Hi Everyone!!!
Nice to see so many 'new to this thread' faces.

Yeah, I saw that one. Had to stay up late to watch it on second run for the night.
I wish they'd get rid of Dave FOR GOOD. He's just so annoying.

I also saw the premiere of the Miami Storage Wars. Hoped it would be good, but I hated it. The characters are so obnoxious. Not really even funny.
Storage Wars Texas was pretty good, wish they'd bring that one back.

I get so annoyed when they are going thru their locker and throw out a price thats absolutely too high for something old and used and junky.

Wow, slowtech, you brought up lots of old memories!nod

Yeah, I didn't like Storage Wars Miami very much. Storage Wars Texas got to be too much the guys vs the girls. On the fight, Dan definitely missed Mary's bid. Dan got right in Dave's face and I can't say that I blame Dave for pushing him away. Laura ran over and started punching Dave but I don't think she was hurting him and Dave pushed her way too hard and knocked her down. Up until that point, I was on Dave's side. He had every right to protect himself but I don't think he should've pushed her. As far as what should happen, I think the show would be just fine without Dan and Laura. I would bring Barry back but you also need Dave as his nemesis. Mary was much better on Texas when she was partners with Moe. I didn't really like the two heavy set guys.

This deserves a post of it's own. They make it seem like when somebody spends $500 on a locker and comes up with a $550 value that they made a $50 profit. That's not even close to how it works. My experience is in collectible books and you really need to make around 4 times what you spend. I think you'd need to get $2000 out of a $500 unit to make it work. It could take you a year or longer to sell any of that stuff and you're out the money you paid. Unless you have unlimited cash that you're willing to spend, you can't keep on buying $500 lockers that don't sell right away. Books are much easier than storage lockers. Every now and then you take a chance but most of the time you know exactly what you're getting. Storage lockers are a big risk. The odds of getting a million dollar unit (like Darrell did) are up there with winning the lottery. Most of the time it's going to be a bunch of stuff that you have to haul away to the dump...

I used to work at a storage place years ago. Auctioned units are mostly junk. Every now and again there's a nice find, but those are pretty few and far between.

And it requires a lot of knowledge to bid on them. For example, I wouldn't have the slightest idea about what furniture is worth. It could be $5 or $5000. And can you imagine the gross stuff you'd find? Yuck...

But I can see the flip side. Somebody dies and his family doesn't know about the storage locker or he doesn't have any family. It's sad but that's when you might find something.

Thats probably the only scenario that I can think of to leave a locker full of valuables, instead of at least going in there and removing them. Then...if you feel you can't pay anymore, abandon it. If you know you've got some pricey items there, ideally you could sell some to cover future storage payments or do something rather than lose them.

If you get too far behind, do they block you from being able to get into your unit? Maybe that's what happens. You can't get in so you can't sell the stuff to pay the bill. I guess they have to block you from getting in. People would just leave without paying.

If you bought lockers, you'd want to work a deal with the storage company where you could see the units once they're abandoned and make them an offer. Unless the storage company is selling the stuff themselves, they probably want it gone asap. I think you'd do better with that than with auctions. Auctions seem like a very tough way to make a living. If you're up against Dave every week, you aren't going to have much fun, it'll be tough to win, and you'll end up paying too much. Didn't Dave end up broke or something?

It seems to me that the bid prices are way too high. You have to have a system. I'd look at the unit when they opened it up and I'd calculate the value of the things I wanted with value being what I can easily sell them for. The stuff that I don't want or can't see would have zero value. My offer would be a max of 25% of the value. There's no way that I'd be bidding $2000 on a bunch of stuff in boxes. You can't do that and stay in business.

I'm trying to figure out if I should get papers this week. Febreze looks good at at Target with the bogo and $1.50/2. I'm calculating between $.35 and $.65 a spray can wyb 10. I don't see anything else that I really want - maybe the Dove bogo if I can figure out a deal.

IMHO tv has killed that business for buyers. I remember when you could get a jammed packed unit for $100. I gave up on it when average units were going for $300-$400 each.
