Q's CVS Lounge

6,510 5,400 October 6, 2015 at 03:21 PM in Cool (4) CVS
I changed the name of the thread because I think that Q's CVS Lounge gives a better representation of what the thread is about. This isn't a deals thread although I will sometimes be posting deals. I'll probably talk more about Transylvania and the stock market than I will about the drugstores but the main thing is that is that I want this to be a cool place to hang out.

I could use some Order
I tried the Organizer Lady & it just didn't take.
Always "too much stuff" around

so I had a week of highs & lows that exhausted me
one example:
Order coupons from Dede on Monday, arrived Thurs, and she messed up my Schick Qs
so I couldn't finish up at RAMad
but also ordered from MCH on Tues, when she listed Schick. She's in FL, so it usually takes a week
but
her envelope arrived FridayWhee, so I had Schick after all

Hubs had the car so I couldn't shop til PM, but our mail doesn't arrive til 5 or 6pm when the unexpected MCH Qs arrived. I was at 16.21 on Schick & about to buy a can of shave gel but no car & delayed shopping worked

Looking at MCH right now & don't see any Qs that look interesting
should I be ordering something?

I quit buying papers
I could handle going from $1 to 1.50
but when they jumped to 2.50, I bailed

I found a Living Social deal that gets me the SF paper delivered $52/yr & just started getting that so I have one set of Qs on sunday now
I hate this computer. I had my usual where I type a long message and then it just goes off into space. I can't retrieve it with the control z trick because it's just gone. I figure that there's a key that I accidentally hit that keeps on causing this to happen but I can't figure out which key it is or how to turn it off. I wish I could make the keyboard like a typewriter. I don't want the dual functions. I just want to type my message and hit send. I also constantly lose my internet connection so I lose a lot of work that way when the computer resets. It sucks but I'm stuck with it. A couple of seconds ago the computer just scrolled to the bottom of the page all by itself. I can live with losing the internet connection but all of the weird things that the computer does on it's own totally piss me off. It's not a virus or anything because it's done this since the computer was new and the last computer did it a lot, too. Now I forgot what I was going to say about RA... laugh out loud It wasn't anything important I know that much. I'd say today is a better day to watch football or go to the beach (temp is in the 90's with clear blue skies and Santa Ana winds). Every day is a better day to do something else than shop. It no longer pays to get papers even if you can work out a deal. Nivea this week is a case in point. By the time I do all of the deals, I'll end up wasting a couple of days and losing money. Even the free Finesse deal isn't free because you have to buy the paper. In the old days you had 20 good q's in each insert. Now it's just one or two (if that). I'm so sick of CVS that I'm thinking about spending my ecb's this week and giving them a long break.

If that's what you want to call it.
did 2 family yard sale at my neighbor's friday and sat. the last time was about 5 yrs ago. it was very slow but in the end we did get some major objectives accomplished.
1- she sold her mom's silver coffee set and her mom got her minimum price, but of course she asked why she didn't get more.
2- neighbor lost a lb from all the bending and lifting which made her really happy b/c she said she'd been only eating 1200 calories and walking 4.5 miles 3x/wk but hadn't lost anymore weight after the first 10 lbs and she said even her dr was disappointed in her results. i told her only walking wasn't going to cut it, that only works over long periods of time, you are not going to see results in days or even wks. that she needed to mix it up and do cardio, etc. of course she didn't go out and actively do what i said, basically in one ear and out the other b/c she didn't want to do it. but doing the yard sale had an unintended major side benefit of kick-starting her weight loss.
3- forced her to clean out her house and realize how much junk she'd been hoarding that she could let go of. she'd been complaining for months that she didn't have enough closet space.
4- has motivated her to sell her stuff instead of either hoarding it or giving it away. she was always complaining it took too much time and even though selling by consignment would get the best prices for clothes, even that took too much time. (ummm, basically hiring somebody else to do all the work for a cut still takes too much time? some people are never satisfied.) but then a customer who has an ebay store told her that her prices were fair and why didn't she sell on ebay? he didn't buy anything. obviously didn't find any bargains he could flip.
5- realize that truly one man's trash is another man's treasure. when we were setting up she kept asking if she should just throw this or that away. then she got a huge shock when her last customers bought the cassette tape organizers she was thinking to throw away b4 the sale even started. she decided to keep the last one b/c her dh said he'd use it to organize small stuff like screws in the garage. basically repurpose or hack it. but i still can't get her to change her way of thinking. when we were packing up she asked me if she should throw out a pair of candlesticks. meanwhile she was donating some of the stuff that hadn't sold to the mosque's rummage sale next wk (they'd postponed it to halloween. don't think that was the greatest move.) why throw them away? just donate them and maybe somebody will buy them.

for me, all my stuff is priced for hopefully another and maybe last trip to the flea market i've done a few times this year. the $10 for basically *taking as much room as you need* spot has been totally worth it. just have to get their early enough for a shady spot. i'm so not a morning person so that is the hardest part of doing the flea.

must be operator error if both computers had the same problem. it's not the computers that are at fault. Teehee

i came to these realizations a few yrs ago. first, my good paper stopped carrying RP so no point spending the same $ for half the q's. switched to the cheaper but not so great paper and their coupons got worse and worse. their rp would have mostly mail order and collectible ads rather than q's. so then i started going to another town and buying the paper occasionally when there were 4+ inserts. and what q's were there were the not so good q's for regions that double. 1/2 won't double, but the .75ip would. so over the yrs i've switched to only doing ip's.

i used to get inserts from my FIL b/c they had them in his bag of driveway flyers. but over time the rp wasn't in there, then no more ss. so now i get only the pg and sometimes the wkly sr super q is good.

my brother's apt building has a rack by the front door for bundles of what would be the bagged driveway flyers. but he keeps forgetting to give them to me when i see him and i rarely go to his building now.

I'll have ONE hand on the computer, no way to be near both keys
go to type a URL (www.) and 3 stinkin' windows close
This esp. makes me happy when I'm typing a postNono

I decided more iPs also, until
hubs switched to wireless internet, and the PC needs some special thing (cost $) to connect
so I stayed with laptops
I inherit his as he falls out of love with them
the Old Battleax gave up the ghost and I have ONE to print from
but his current one is about to be his ex, so hopefully I can print 4 IPs again

i had sauteed green beans for dinner tonight from wegmans! around this time every year they have giant local cauliflower at wegmans, the amish farmers market and the weekly farmers market. one year i got a cauliflower from wegmans the size of a basketball! i even posted a picture of it next to a basketball for my friends on facebook. i think the one i got this year is only the size of a soccerball.

this yr i finally went to a u-pick farm not too far away that i'd been meaning to go to for years and i picked green beans, broccoli, zucchini, peppers, tomatoes, sweet corn, apples, peaches and nectarines. first time ever picking broccoli, corn and nectarines. sweet corn is prickly hard work!

we were supposed to have frost last wk and i wonder if it killed everything. i'd love to pick some more b4 it gets too cold.

i've been meaning to go for yrs to pick sweet cherries. next year i will go if i have to go all by myself.

Oh, I'm sure that it is operator error. I'm not debating that point... laugh out loud I just want something simple where it's just a typewriter keyboard.

I guess my sale wasn't that slow after all. The person who does it for me made it sound like it was a disaster but when I got over there today I saw that she had sold everything except a few cat foods. I took the cat foods to the Salvation Army and I had my goal of an empty garage. Now I wish that I hadn't bought papers because I could've said that's it and done some other things besides shopping. It looks like I'll have at least one more week of this crap. Here's an example of how my day went...

I walked into CVS and scanned my card. The machine is right by the register and the cashier was standing there. Nothing printed out so I said to the cashier...

Um, excuse me, but nothing printed out from the machine.

You're the 6th person who has said that so far today.

Well, can you fix it?

No.

Well, can you put a sign up telling people that the machine is broken?

They'll find out when they scan their card.

Um, do you realize that all of the coupons that would've printed out are now lost and people won't get them?

Well, if I put a sign up you still wouldn't have got your coupons...

At that point I left. I'm not making this up. It actually happened.

I'm in my 50's so I'm not a senior yet. I'm also not an idiot when it comes to tech. I just have no interest whatsoever in computers and I don't even have my cellphone charged most of the time.

50+ qualifies for AARP.

49+ and kids over 19 qualifies for active over 55 restricted housing in my state.

me, i'm not an idiot, but like my screenname indicates, takes me a long time to catch up to everyone else. i only got a smartphone a few months ago. don't have to have the latest toy and don't want to pay those prices either. also many times they are rather limiting, esp mobile. just not as many functions available. not an information-rich nor fully functioning environment. for example, you can't search facebook groups from mobile. at our yard sale my neighbor didn't know you didn't have to sign in to ebay to screen for completed listings, didn't know you could screen for only sold listings and when she found the functions, they weren't working on her iphone. but could have been user error. you can't post photos to sd from android afaik and only one at a time from apple products.

and i'll be qualifying for AARP and active over 55+ sooner rather than later. i already have progressives and still have problems seeing tiny stuff close up. just easier to take off my glasses altogether sometimes.

Here's my Hell in a Cell review. Lots of blood in the Lesnar vs Undertaker match. Really bad botch by the Undertaker on a tombstone. Lesnar sells (puts the other guy over) like crazy. Loved what is being called the "dick punch". Hope Undertaker retires - don't want an Undertaker vs Wyatt Family feud. Owens vs Ryback - who cares? Rollins vs Kane - who cares? Nikki Bella vs Charlotte - who cares? New Day vs Dudley Boys - fell asleep. Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt - great match. John Cena vs Alberto Del Rio - really stupid ending. Pre show panel - totally useless but Renee Young looked hot as always.

Saw the Terrence Crawford fight on Saturday. They say Crawford will be Manny Pacquiao's opponent for Pacquiao's last fight in March. If so, I've got to go with Crawford but he got hit flush a couple of times and if Pacquaio did that Crawford would be in trouble. I don't think Crawford's switching to southpaw will be an issue for Pacquaio but I do think Crawford will win a majority of the rounds. Crawford is the current champ at 140 lbs and undefeated.

Also saw a replay of the Triple G fight. There were 2 obvious fouls by Triple G (hitting while the other guy was down and hitting after the bell). There should've been a penalty on the first foul and the guy should've been given 5 minutes to recover.

What's the point? I don't know if any beauty bucks would've printed but all a manager will do is say to call the 1 800 # which, of course, I can't do since it will open up a whole can of worms and things are already bad enough at CVS.

I only go onto FB to print RAQ's. I couldn't use it for anything else if my life depended on it. However, I do know how to navigate ebay and do everything I need to in order to sell and post pics.

I'm more like a 20 year old kid than someone my age. A t-shirt and jeans is dressed up and nothing is more important than the surf report. If we get the surf this winter that they're predicting (from the El Nino) I'll have to get my ass out there. I remember the last El Nino. I think it was in 1999 - 2000 (but when you get as old as I am it's hard to remember the exact year lol). A typical day in So Cal was 10 - 15' but a few days were in the 20 - 25' range. I'd love a repeat but I need to start pool swimming again to get myself back into surfing shape.

mgrs here would check the machine and put tape in if that was the problem. couple months ago mgr fished my q's out of the machine for me b/c they weren't coming out.

facebook used to have a lot of coupons until the last few months. now it's pretty much back to the big 3 except that SS just realized their new platform to get away from java isn't secure at all and people can print triple the q's from each device so shoplocal has been disabled. of course there isn't any message, just says coupons aren't available.

20 yr olds don't wear jeans. sales of jeans has been in decline for many years. not comfortable enough and too much work having to zipper and button them. (so don't buy lee's, levi's or wrangler b/c they have a big problem right now and need to reinvent themselves.) i used to work for a retailer that used to be known for jeans so i still read up on retail. i go shopping w/ tweens, teens and millenials who are kids of my friends and relatives, handhold my friends and relatives while they shop for their kids or get an earful of complaints about it. millenials like pull-ons although they do still tie their shoe laces more often than not. if i find 90% off clothes, i'll message my 20 yr old nephew to see if he wants or not.

millenials like to wear even more casual elastic waist pants like their grandparents (think track suits), so name brand athletic wear, sweatpants, leggings and jeggings for both guys and gals are the trend. b/c of this, leg warmers made a brief reappearance. high tech fabrics and kicks are popular, think 80's all over again. even stirrup pants made a brief reappearance b/c riding boots are still in fashion. so under armour, nike, north face, vans, etc have been popular brands. fragrance is also big amongst an even younger crowd, tweens, since parents don't put them on budgets or allowances anymore, their spending is unrestrained and they haven't learned the value of money yet.

jeans are an older crowd to which i belong to. i remember brooke shields and her calvins, jordache and anna nicole smith and guess.

Jeans and a t-shirt have always been typical for So Cal even in the winter (because we don't have a winter). Cold in So Cal is when it gets down to the 60's and I can't remember the last time it rained (I mean actual rain not sprinkles). I guess there was golf ball sized hail a week or two ago (in some areas of So Cal) but it was sunny here. I'm going to have to pay attention to what the kids are wearing (not that it would make any difference for what I wear - it's always going to be jeans and a t-shirt). You're absolutely right about Under Armour and Nike - both of those companies are red hot. It's also the area where you live. If you go to the Century City Mall, everybody is dressed to the max. If you go to where I live, nobody cares.
