Anybody ever cut cable with a firestick/roku+kodi? Are you happy with the decision?

My biggest issue will be sports. I dont have any of this yet but know a couple friends that swear by it.

If you've cut cable and done this + a HD antenna are you happy with your decision?

Not me...I usually use scissors or another sharp object to cut cables.

I'm happy, but my TV watching was already tapering off over the last year, and I don't watch sports. Or any "watercooler" shows like GoT or TWD or what-have-you.

And as I'm told I could get all my shows typically a day later on the Kodi software on the Firestick. Is that what you have? or just the antenna?

I have a media PC, Roku, and some game consoles. There's a TV tuner in the PC, but I haven't actually scheduled any recordings with it yet, just validated that I could watch TV on it.

I work with a guy that "cut the cord". He uses a vpn to come from outside the US doing so he can buy sports packages for football etc that aren't normally available inside the US because internally they're reserved for direct tv/cable subscribers. He typically just needs to go through the vpn to authenticate to the service, then he can turn it off and the streaming will happen from inside the US instead of having to go out of country to then just come back in. Reduces the latency.

Incredibly more compressed. And for second/third scheduled showings, stronger compression is applied.

We plan to cut cable soon since we hardly watch much TV and it never hurts to reduce costs. I'm considering trying an atenna for the basic channels + my Netflix and Amazon Prime. I may also give Sling TV a try since my wife loves HGTV, Food Network and a few others on the basic list. I usually keep getting new Comcast specials that I have to get every 6-12 months usually.

First time hearing of Kodi so I may have to look into that.

fyi..Kodi was called "XBMC" So you'll see references to XBMC when looking up info about Kodi.

I haven't had a cable or satellite service for several years now. I would watch whatever channels were available through my cable internet connection at first. Now we use Netflix all the time. Usually use it through the app on the PS3. We have an Amazon Fire Stick, but the ps3 app is still more convenient for Amazon videos.

The fire stick seemed to get quite hot and had some problems. We haven't used it much and Amazon's TV/movie service doesn't seem very well organized to me. I guess I'm just used to how Netflix works now.

We don't watch sports... maybe once or twice a year we will watch basketball. Used the internet to watch TV on New Year's last year. Our local service worked for what we needed.

We cut the cord back in August of 2014. We do have a Tivo Romio and get about 30 local channels here, although it's really only ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, The CW, and PBS, plus each channel's 'side channels' of which only a couple are HD. However, we find it to be more than enough.

We also have an Amazon Fire and a couple Fire Sticks in the house, and I have sideloaded Kodi on them all. I have a ton of content on my Synology NAS drive, and we use Amazon Prime and Netflix. We used to use Hulu Plus, but with the Tivo it was really redundant and still had commercials, so we cut that out.

We still get some football on the broadcast channels, but just not as much as we used to get. The only channels we really miss are TNT, AMC, ESPN, and G4, and there are ways to get nearly all that missed content anyway.

I view sports via my out of area and sometimes country "friends" that host via a website. Smilie I can pm ya the website if ya want.

Current TV shows is a different type of site. I have a link for that too.
