Anybody ever cut cable with a firestick/roku+kodi? Are you happy with the decision?

My biggest issue will be sports. I dont have any of this yet but know a couple friends that swear by it.

If you've cut cable and done this + a HD antenna are you happy with your decision?

I work with a guy that "cut the cord". He uses a vpn to come from outside the US doing so he can buy sports packages for football etc that aren't normally available inside the US because internally they're reserved for direct tv/cable subscribers. He typically just needs to go through the vpn to authenticate to the service, then he can turn it off and the streaming will happen from inside the US instead of having to go out of country to then just come back in. Reduces the latency.
Cool.

I use to run a Roku, it works really great. I ended up giving it to my brother and just running my computer to my TV instead. Those device do have some restrictions or at least did. But viewing on your PC didn't. Just run the HDMI cable turn on Hulu and try it out.

We still get some football on the broadcast channels, but just not as much as we used to get. The only channels we really miss are TNT, AMC, ESPN, and G4, and there are ways to get nearly all that missed content anyway.
G4 was a shadow of itself by then anyhow, and now is gone entirely. RIP G4 Dead Deal

Glad I could enjoy it during its pinnacle, before they dumbed it down.

We've been using just a Roku for ~4 years, before that it was a media PC hooked up to the TV. The Roku 3 is nice because it supports Netflix profiles, our Roku 2 does not. We also use Plex to stream movies from our computers along with music. There are few new shows that even interest me and I can find another way to watch those if I don't want to wait. Overall we've been happy though, saves a ton since we didn't watch that much tv anyway.

recently cut it as much as i can. problem is with comcast..if you cancel TV, the internet plan goes up. lowest i can get my bill is $85 a month...that's with 75 mbps internet and about 40 tv channels (HD)

My set up is an HDHomerun Prime with 3 nexus players (all with kodi). A plex server with sickbeard setup, feeding it new content daily.

Live cnngo is available on Apple tv. FX now is a great app too. All you need for most cable tv apps on Roku, Apple tv ect. is a shared password. Thanks Sis! I dropped Directv after 15 years, 6 months ago. I kind of prefer most streaming as mostly it is commercial free. When I had Directv I always had to pick up the remote every 7 minutes to pluck out my DVR's commercials. I also like saving $75.00 a month. Hulu has a commercial free premium service also.

I use an antenna connected to a OTA DVR (Philips bought in 2007 at WalMart) and I can record more TV than I can watch.

When did they start that? We opted not to use Hulu because even if you paid for it there were commercials, just not as many.

I think it's 4 or 5 dollars xtra for Hulu+ without commercials. You can upgrade in your account settings. They have a pretty good movie selection also. Check out "Barfly" Lol.

I have been off the grid about a year. Best method is firestick with Kodi, I do get live sports and have gotten most of the games I want to watch. Endless amount of content especially movies. It takes awhile to get used to the difference with just changing channels. You might want to also check into a Asus media player, looks like this may ever be easier to load Kodi onto. If your not super teckie type of person there are lots of people selling both of these with Kodi already loaded on them via e-bay.

I had cut the cable for more than a year, but went back recently. I enjoy too many obscure sports (Formula 1, in particular), and it's just too hard to do other things, even those that aren't fully legal. I don't know why anyone who isn't into sports would keep cable anymore, though. I have a coworker who still has cable but they don't watch any sports, I've never understood their explanations of why they keep cable (and pay for netflix, too). I at least don't feel the need to pay for netflix or hulu, although I do have a prime account.

I'll also say that my Samsung smart TV made things pretty easy, too. My biggest problem was that I live in a highrise facing away from the broadcast antennas, so my reception was pretty terrible at best, and on windy/rainy nights I could only get one station at all.
