I'm sure it's been mentioned and buried but extended warranty benefit goes away next month which sucks
Uhh yeah I have an Amex, this is not true lol
I'm sure citi fought hard in the bidding process to beat Amex to get the Costco account. Part of the terms were probably to offer better benefits for the customer....

does anybody know what happens to my current amex reward dollars by the switchover? will they send me a check? or shoudl i stop using the card now?
they told it will be transferred to new citicard for which details will be coming with new card or at a later date. they mentioned that it will be dictated by citi tough. I got this in mail few days back from AMEX
I spend a lot on restaurant and have been looking for a card that gives good cashback on it. 3% is way better than the 1% I've been getting on other cards.
Have Amex blue (old one with 6k threshold before 5% gas, groceries, drugstores kick in), chase freedom, discover.
Capital one too but only for zero foreign transaction fee.
If you have a freedom then you should get a Chase Sapphire Preferred.
This gives 2x Ultimate Rewards points on restaurants, and since UR points are worth more than 1.5 cents that beats 3% cashback.
Plus it'll greatly increase the value of your freedom points because instead of the crap 1-cent-a-point you get for them now you can transfer them to travel partners and get 2-5 cents a point.
(Note- if you never travel, and don't have any friends who do either, you can ignore all of the above as you won't have any way to get the higher value out of UR points)
I have BofA travel rewards card that gives you 1.5% on everything. And I also get 20% on the bonus because I keep my checking account with them as well. Would that be better for using in Costco than their card?
I don't think so, 3% is pretty high on restaurants, and 4% on gas. The cards with rotating categories will beat these for 1/4 of the year, for example Freedom offers 5% on gas right now until April 1, but I don't think there's a 4% yearly gas card for no fee.
Pretty good card, it looks like
Sams Mastercard is 5% on gas, 3% on dining and 1% on everything else 100% of the time
Great it sounds like my end of year cash bonus will be closer to $400 instead of $330 with the higher cash back. AMEX is pushing HARD To not lose the business. Every time I login to site they hammer me to click link to take their Blue Card, not to mention the snail mailing received multiple times monthly. I'd say they're expecting to take a hit... see if 2016 Q4 earnings call mentions this. :-)
To max out the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred groceries category for the year, you only need to spend $6,000 in groceries. That's $500 per month. That's not much. Now, this assumes that you can't fulfill all of your grocery needs at Costco, which we personally can't.
6% (AmEx Blue Cash Preferred groceries category) on 6,000 is $360. Minus $75 (annual fee) is $285. That's what you get for groceries on the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred - $285.
Since the Citi Costco doesn't cover non-Costco groceries, the best you'll get from any other combinations of cards is the Citi Double Cash 2%, along with the Discover IT/Chase Freedom rotating 5% on groceries. Generously assuming that average between the Citi Double Cash and the Discover IT/Chase Freedom cashback on groceries over the course of the year is about 3% (Citi Double Cash year-round + Discover/Chase occasional 5%), that would be $180 in groceries cash back. AmEx Blue Cash Preferred is $100 over that, even with the annual fee.
Is $100 worth it? Not sure. We currently have the AmEx Everyday, but are thinking about upgrading to the Blue Cash Preferred. No real downside if there's no credit pull. Alternatively, we could wait for the AmEx Preferred $250 sign-up and open a new account. Then you get the 6% as above, along with $250, which is basically 2.5 years worth of the card's cash back. That's probably the best option, although I would be left with a useless Blue Cash Everday. I suppose I could have my girlfriend open a Blue Cash Preferred with the sign-up and 6%, then I could upgrade mine, and then once we hit the $6,000, we can switch to the other card and also get 6%. Now we're talking, as that's basically 6% on $12,000 in groceries, which is unlimited for us as we're a young couple.
EDIT: if you go incognite/private mode, the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred still has the $250 sign-up bonus. They advertise a max of $450, as you can get 10% back at a wireless provider. Very nice if you're buying a phone in the near future.
Wow. If I ever need to find a needle in a hay stack I know who to call.
Yep. I'm currently using their Amex version for Costco purchases to get the 2%. If you use the points to purchase airline tickets, the return is actually a little greater. For example, you could get a $300 ticket for 25k points in some cases.
Once converted to VISA, I'll use this card for my Costco purchases and others where I cannot get >2x points using other cards.

Not much need for Amex anymore unless there's a bonus sign up offer.
