Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

I am trying to go through the process now with telesales re-porting over from Tmobile. They are having issues with the Tmo acct they are telling me. She mumbled something about this and asked me a few times if the Tmo acct (1 + phone number) was correct. I gave her PIN and she said it wasnt working. Then she did something else and said she needs a name associated to the Tmo acct, which I didnt provide.

Anyway, I had to call back to Tmo and add a name to each line. Waiting for Sprint to call me back so I dont have to start the process over again.

Just an fyi for anyone planning to use it on iphone 7.. Ported 2 lines on iPhone 7 both A1660 models purchased sim-free. One phone works with both sprint sims other one shows No Service and unable to connect to Sprint network. After 30 mins on call with technical rep i was being told some iPhone device of this model have reported issues with Sprint services. Have been referred to visit apple store to get it fixed or replaced. Will be visiting store today.

We know. Any phone that has been on a Sprint MVNO gets that exact error message. "You owe money to Sprint" We have gone through this dozens of times.

It does not mean what it says literally. They use it also where a phone has been on a Sprint mvno.

Just contact LiterallyUnlimited on Reddit and he will flip the database flag phone from MVNO status to Postpaid status (PLBL to SPCS) and then it will no longer get that error.

See
https://www.reddit.com/r/Sprint/c...t/dlt3sho/
and
https://www.reddit.com/r/Literall...ete_guide/
for more info.

Over the past year I've read this thread, the wiki, the reddit links...but honestly, I don't even know where to begin. I'm on the Virgin Mobile year of service for $1 with iPhone plan and I have another month left on it. I want to use the iPhone that I have on Virgin for the Sprint 1 year free deal.

Do I sign up for Sprint 1 year free by
- asking LiterallyUnlimited or ClickIT Ticket to change iphone from PLBL - nevermind, saw that he won't touch Virgin; and also it's not needed

- then give sim card and IMEI information
- then port over a Google Voice number
Confused

EDIT: Looks like I will just need to contact Virgin and have them unlock the phone. Then port over to T-Mobile prepaid, and finally to Sprint deal.

I don't really care about the phone number though, so is the T-Mobile part still needed so the sim card and IMEI info switches correctly? If that part is covered by the Virgin unlock, then I can just do a Google Voice port. I guess either way it will cost $3.

Double check for A1660 settings/general/about/tap model.
I assume you tried ##clear# and ##update# from phone dialer.

Thanks to everyone that gave helpful info on porting out of an old free plan, then back in to a new year. I also used the T-Mobile digital SIM method.

First rep went through the entire process, family member got approved for 5 lines with their SSN, but then we got shot down on porting their number (back) in. It was originally on my free year which was ending soon. The rep said the number had to be off Sprint for 45 days before I could bring it back.

I let them go, called back about 20 mins later, and the 2nd rep also ran into trouble trying to port it in from T-Mobile Prepaid. They said they'd call me back while someone else worked on it. Finally, I got the email with "congratulations" about an hour after hanging up. Went and checked the phone and the port went through Smilie The new account is up and running and all charges look correct ($5/mo - $5 credit/mo per line for up to 5 lines until 7/31/19). The line is working fine (will port another line in later today).

I was able to do this with my wife's phone. To get the free year of Virgin service we had to pay for the i-Phone upfront and I assume you had to do the same. I contacted them (Virgin) via email to unlock the phone and they did (they wanted to know if was for domestic or international). Ported over to T-Mobile and then ported back into Sprint with a new account in her name. Got a free SIM at the Apple store just to be sure but I think the Virgin SIM will also work.
Quote from slim69 :
All I did was contact Virgin via email to get the phone unlocked, moved it to another carrier on a Wednesday, went to the Apple store on Saturday and got a free Sprint SIM, came home and setup a new account for her with Sprint.

Thank you for posting this. It sounds like what I will probably need to do moving from the Virgin 1 year for $1 iPhone plan. I still have a little over a month free left so I hope there is no penalty for not staying the full 12 months.

45 day day requirement is odd. i (and a few others) have done this twice and had no problems,,,

so when u ported out..did u port out all lines and close account? becasue u say the the originally 1 year freewas to expire soon. if u ported out all lines and closed the caoount, then it wouldnt matter when the originally 1 y free was to expire because the account was closed and effeectively expired.

Correct. Virgin is not a Sprint mvno (it is a prepaid division of Sprint) so LiterallyUnlimited cannot do anything and does not need to. Virgin will either do the unlock or it won't. LiterallyUnlimited only deals with the mvno flag. The Virgin flag is a separate flag and a separate issue.

The lock refers to the imei only.

The phone number is a separate issue (treated independently of the phone) and will have to be at a non-Sprint provider when you port it in.

Glad you got it working and, along the lines noted by desi_babu_2010, the first rep. was just confused about what the 45 days applies to.

When something goes wrong, some reps start reaching for excuses/explanations and use any reason that could be vaguely related from their dim recollections of reasons.

Guessing at explanations to quickly get rid of a person who has a puzzling problem is part of their regular mode of operation.

Yes, I had trouble with Tmo port initially, Sprint rep telling me I needed the name from the Tmo acct. Got 3 phones activated so far but need to do a swap on one of them to a Sprint iP4s so I can free up that phone and re-port the last line from Tmo.

When I tried to do the swap, they told me the iP4s was not in their database (they said some about bc it was on a prepaid acct - so I guess my initial port out to Tmo caused this)? They had to open a ticket and I asked them to escalate so hopefully this all happens b4 the promo ends!

I signed up last year and had two lines on that original account, expiring 7/31/18. I ported one of the lines out to T-Mo Prepaid yesterday morning, and not too long after (maybe an hour), the Sprint online promo page was showing both the line and device as eligible for this deal. The line was no longer showing on the original free year account (mine) anymore.

Then the rep started digging and figured out the number/line had been on Sprint (on my free year) Big Grin That's when they gave me the 45 days spiel. I -almost- gave up, but decided to just hang up, wait a bit (maybe it just needed time for the number to register on T-Mo's side) and luckily it went through after the 2nd call.

as i suspected..perhaps..keeping the 1 line active made it easier for the rep to recognize the phone was on sprint not too long ago (lol..same day )

what i have done is open new account first with dummy GV number costing only $3.
when that line is set up properly..port away (best is TMobile) all lines from older free plan...effectively cancelling the older account which now has no lines.
port all into newer free plan.
~1 month later, port out the dummy GV initial line (best to h20 for 1 penny)

while your method should have been fine as well.... im surprised rep balked and brought up the 45 day rule thing..as i am sure they probably get some commission from new lines..which the 1st rep did not get ..

on the flip side....nice to see S reps having some moral compass

Had already tried ##CLEAR# & ##UPDATE# & rebooting yesterday with Sprint tech team but it didn't help..
So if anyone else ever face similar issue pls try restoring your iphone with itunes before visiting apple store.. it might save u a trip 🤗

Can anyone answer some of my questions about porting from Google Voice?

I was told by Sprint that their system wouldn't accept my number for porting.

They asked what provider I was porting from. I said Verizon. Does that matter? I didn't know what else to say since for some reason no one, or the wiki, has mentioned that.

They wanted a personal PIN at least 6 digits. Is this the same one I created on GV? I only made that one 4 digits.

best practice:

always restore ANY phone, once it is active on sprint

will clear up most problems
