They want you hooked on ink and paper. Both of which are expensive but top notch.
I hear good things about precision ink generic refilling system.
Yup, this.
But then again, every so often Canon does their massive paper deals, so that plus the Precision Colors inks drives the cost down to a very reasonable point.
Printer is actually good, I got it with T6i camera. I have printed large size photos at home and they turned out really well. Printer is big in size, need extra space.
Rebate process is also easy, just make sure you make copy of all documents.
But now it might be late to buy this if rebate is valid till 12/31/2017
Should be fine on the timing. Order went through right away with confirmation and receipt in email and "must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2018 and received no later than February 14, 2018"

Could you elaborate on that? Tried searching but search terms are generic so mostly brought up canon printer deals. Interested to see what kind of paper deals there might be in the future.

Currently Canon is running 50% off on papers and also give you free papers if you purchase their inks which is a good deal. Alternatively you can purchase papers from Costco which is also good quality (equivalent to Canon Photo Paper Plus II but less than Canon Photo Paper Pro).
For inks, you should buy refillable cartridges and inks from Precision Colors (https://www.precisioncolors.com) as they have calibrated ICC profiles. The downside is that they come in bottles instead of cartridges so you need to refill by yourself. You may try some cheap inks from other ink websites. IMHO quality wise cheap inks are ok for consumer printers but they have huge variances even among batches so it doesn't worth the risk for printers like pro100. Personally I won't buy inks from ebay or Amazon.
