Opinions on TV Mounting Setup and Alternative Options

This is our current setup. Looking to possibly upgrade from a 55" to a 65". I'd like to get people's take on the current setup as far as visual appeal (poll included). And feel free to reply with comments on ideas on how to improve. Thank you.

Looks too high. Your TV should be eye level. Do you watch TV standing up?

Thanks for your reply. I had to laugh at that one. But optimal TV height (~4' to center of screen) was taken into consideration, but we equally watch TV from a couch (about ~14' back), so the though higher than eye level, the viewing angle isn't terrible that it would cause neck strain. Also, we watch from our kitchen/dinette either standing or sitting, and also exercise standing up.

I would put the TV at the height of the soundbar then add a shelf above it and put DVDs or something at the edge so you could not tell there was an inset for a smaller TV.

Have you taken a measurement to ensure it wouldn't interfere with the light switch there?

You should mount your new 65" TV in portrait mode instead of landscape mode to make efficient use of the space.

It should look cool because of the float effect, but I'm nuts on efficiency, so my mind instantly goes to "wasted space behind" when I look at it, even though one sitting on the dresser would all but eliminate the space above anyway unless you added some shelving.

If you're 14' away anyway, I'd consider getting a shallow-ish stand and simply putting it in front of that space, but I personally like stands better than mounts.

Where did you get the dresser? I kinda like that look.

Elsewise, I agree with the guy that said portrait mode.

Move dresser. Insert safe. Build false wall with hidden hinges and mount TV on it..

14' back??? Get rid of the TV.

Get a pull down projection screen, get a projector, problem solved, you can go bigger than 65" easily.

Just make sure your curtains are blacked-out or you have blinds if you have windows around. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't put a projector in a well-lit room, unless you have curtains and such.

They make 2 different kinds of projectors (I'm sure more than that, but you get the point)

One for well lit rooms, the problem is that they have poor black levels. So in a well lit room, you can easily have a projector, and all your bright scenes (sports?) will look great. But movies with a lot of darks will look a washed out. Even if you turn off the lights.

The other option is to get a projector that has great black levels, but doesn't have lots of light output. In a well lit room it'll be washed out. But if you can get black out curtains, it'll have amazing quality.

Like with everything, there are tradeoffs.

The projector itself looks the same at any time of day.
