12 months is way too long. 3 months is better.
Totally depends on your usage and environment. 12 months is fine for occasional use in a place with clean air. If it's on 18 hours a day every day and it's a dust bowl outside, then even a month might kill it.
You can call your local store to find out since each store carries different items.
