This thread is being created so people -- generally, those people who can't seem to resist talking about off-topic junk in the Target coupon thread -- have a place to talk about shopping at Target and other miscellaneous matters.

All you folks who hang out in the Target coupon thread, start hanging out here instead! When you've got something relevant to post about Target coupons, please post about it in the Target coupon thread! We'd love to hear about it, but NOT about your dog, your cat, your mom, your genital herpes, your... well, you get the idea.

Hokay, many of you know how ancient ol' INAA is, but I'll (carbon) date myself even further by saying that when I was a youngster living in Southern California, my favorite ice cream used to be from the Thrifty drug store counter. Back when Thrifty was THE drug store chain. Their ice cream scooper made it into nifty little cylinders, not the regular old blobs you'd get everywhere else; never have seen such a scooper before or since. Is Rite Aid using something similar?

Also, for you Californians of a certain vintage...remember Farrell's Ice Cream (where we always lied and said it was our birthday, just to get the special treatment---and C.E.C. can kiss Farrell's right smack dab on the ass, 'cause Farrell's had like flashing lights and a siren and a whole big production (kinda like Applebee's or Hooters, but WAY better).

How about Swensen's (mmmm...earthquake)?

Love's BBQ?

Longfellow's (chicken, steak...and chocolate cake!)

Merrimac's in Costa Mesa for prime rib...

Pioneer Chicken?

Yuuuuuuummmmmm!!!
Oh, weird, did we grow up together? I transplanted to WA State, but grew up in SoCal! In high school we hung out at a strip mall that had a Swensen's, and I LOVED the Sticky Chewy Chocolate ice cream!

And I had a Thrifty's Drug down the road and, if I recall correctly, prices were 15, 25, and 35 for a single, double or triple. I love that cylinder shape cone! My favorites were Pistachio, English Toffee and Chocolate Chip. Sure was great ice cream!

Remember the Pig Trough at Farrell's? The servers made some sort of commotion when bringing that thing out and it was HUGE! And yep, always a birthday in our party....LOL!

Are you familiar with Naugle's? Best Green Burritos around, too bad Del Taco won't go retro and bring back some Naugle's menu items. I forgot all about Pioneer chicken, but I know we had some of those nearby.

New here? You should actually read the thread. Slowtech donates alot of time to recap important posts, so people don't have to read through tons of BS to find good deals.

They aren't asking for reps for doing the recap, in fact, just the opposite....making sure the readers rep the person from the original post which the recap is quoting.
Quote from stickergoddess :
All slowtech is saying is that she does not want the reps for the info in the recaps--- And to rep to OP. I think it is nice of her to remind everyone to rep the OP if you read something in her recap post that is helpful. slowtech is not begging for reps.
Quote from tmcws :
Teehee Nice entrance to the thread. Good luck!
thanks guys! i wish people would lurk for at least a month b4 rushing in where angels fear to tread. i've been here awhile, that is a long while, and i still can't wrap my head around some of the deals... like tuna. i think i need multiple q's?

thank goodness i have a thick skin online or else i would not be doing what i do now. and, i take full credit for coming up w/ the idea of recapping which is now done in other popular threads like cvs and kmart.

who doesn't like getting reps? i'm not asking for reps for myself, although i do love getting them. just reminding everyone to go back and rep the person who originally posted the deal! which was not me, so that's why i occasionally put in the reminder.

and yes, it does take a long time to do recaps, really time i should be spending doing other things, but it's just my little way of giving back to the community for all the great deals i've been given.

As a regular reader and occasional poster on this thread, I would like to thank you for all your hard work and many hours devoted to helping the rest of us. I especially appreciate your recaps when I return from vacation or haven't been able to keep up with the posts due to work, holidays or personal obligations. And I love the new format which makes being able to rep the OPs so easy. hug
When I have been able to keep up with this thread, I usually scroll thru your post, but when I'm behind, I search for your posts first.
So, on behalf of so many of us, thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU! And reps for all your efforts. hug

I think those prices for the Thrifty ice cream sound about right...

The pig trough was the bomb! Closest thing I've seen to it is the "kitchen sink" at Beaches and Cream in Walt Disney World (21 scoops of ice cream, a whole can of whipped cream, etc---it's like a Swensen's Earthquake on steroids).

Naugel's...mmmmm...my step-brother worked at one of those around the early 80's; too bad Del Taco's burritos and such aren't even close to the same thing ('Not the same place, not the same thing' remember that ad campaign?). But their quesadillas are pretty good---kinda wish we had one in MO.

Hey I remember getting ice cream from the counter at the Thrifty's Drug store (in the cylinder shape) in San Diego and I am not that old!!! You can still get it from some of the counters here at Rite Aid (same cool shape scooper) the price has just gone up now!!! OMG

I do remember Farrell's. We often went there for my B day when I was young! I don't remember the taste of the ice cream, just the "fancy to do" they would do for your b day.

Dontknow about the other stuff, I think you are starting to date yourself Wink Teehee hug
Hey, if I don't date myself, who will?

And it should ALWAYS be (or have been...RIP) someone's birthday at Farrell's; no real reason to go there otherwise...

Glad to see you, A! I see that your feisty-ness has recuperated 100%....

Holy cow - you just transported me back to my childhood growing up in LA. Thrifty Ice Cream in the cylindrical shapes on the cone was the BEST, and it was super cheap.

Ok, besides Thrifty drug stores, remember when Sav-On Drugs had its name changed to Osco drugs (not very smart in so cal laugh out loud )

I remember Ferells and Swensens too, but didn't go very often. Pioneer Chicken - definitely remember that, but Kentucky Fried was better (back before it was "KFC" laugh out loud)

I remember Naugles and Del Taco, but always thought that Taco Bell was better. Granted we had so many local taco shops that were much better, so we rarely went to any of the chain ones. drool
