1. What's considered as 'new customer'? I've had prepaid service for a month last year.
2. Anyway to avoid 'tax and fees'?
3. Anyway to avoid buying $5 SIM card? Already have one from last year.
Appreciate your time.

2. Prepaid cards.
3. Not sure on this, but just read on this thread not too far back someone went to buy a SIM card at Walmart and called csr to get the promo. It took them a few calls but they were able to succeed.

Btw, paid $5.38 for SIM and when I called ATT to activate it was told I still needed to pay the $300 + tax to activate the service. A bit annoying since I thought I had already paid for both SIM/service when I signed up.

I just signed up for this deal and waiting for SIM card.
If they don't have another promo offer next year maybe I'll go back to the $30 plan or maybe do $40 for 8gb per month?
Note that it's not that hard to find ATT top up cards on sale at retailers or on eBay etc for at least 10% off. If you pay with top up cards ATT does not tax you on top of that because technically the top up cards themselves are supposed to be taxed. But it depends where / how you buy them. For example, I was paying roughly $26 month, all-in for my $30 (autopay) plan. I imagine $40 a month would really cost me about $35 if I again search for cheap top up cards.
So I'm not worried about next year I'll figure it out then and enjoy the 8 gbs of data for the next 12 months.

My question for you is, do you think if I can go ahead sign up the prepaid account with ATT and buy the prepaid card (from Sam's) and load them to the account now and wait until next week and I call them to start the porting number over
Thank you
I am waiting to activate, is there a place on the online form to put in the prepaid card codes?
