They are all together different instruments. Different neck width, smaller headstock on the Professional, different frets, different tuners, different bridges, all different electronics, Performer has Yosemite pickups while the Professional has Shawbucker pickups. Performer also has the feature of a push-pull switch under the second tone knob that allows the neck pickup to be used along with any other setting on the 5-way switch.

I think I covered it all.
Where are the elites?
Will just add that the Pro has a pop-in tremolo arm, and the performer has a regular screw-in mechanism.

I think that is the cheapest the Performer has been. Certainly as cheap as you'll get a new American Strat. Sure the Professional is better, but it still is 33% more.

The pro is not better. You are paying for a case with it. It comes down to preference.

Yes, a case, but more than just preference. More than just my opinion. Better is always an arguable word, but you can't argue against it any more than for it. Thr Pro is more expensive even considering the case and is considered generally to be "better". YRMV.

More expensive doesn't mean better. A hard case doesn't mean better either. If you don't gig or if you have a lot of guitars another hard case is just more space taken up in the closet. IMO the pro is much worse. I can't stand the Tall Narrow frets they have. Every guitar I've ever owned has had Jumbo / Medium Jumbo. The tall narrow ones cause me to play sharp. If you do a google search you'll find a lot of people complain about this as well. Definitely a preference between the 2 options.

These prices are amazing for American Fenders. Couple that with the fact that you're paying no sales tax with Adorama (especially in states like CA) and it's that much sweeter. Maybe they'll drop in price by anther $50 but I don't see it getting much better.

There are quite a few upgrades with the professional. Your reasoning makes it sound like there'd be no difference again if it were a Custom Shop with similar specs . The one point you've not mentioned is every level of guitar there made , whether it's a Fender, Gibson, Ibanez etc.. the next step up in model (or price as it were) equals more time spent doing the details. Fret ends, sanding, grade if wood, finishing etc. Even a few more hours spent alone on the fretboard can mean a world of difference playing the guitar.

The case that the professional comes with - can it be checked in when flying?
