I know it's not much, but it's something if you're looking for one right now. Best Buy (via Google Shopping) has the 2019 Nvidia Shield TV (8GB non-Pro) for $129.99 or Pro version $179.99 after coupon 19DECSAVE -> new code JANSAVE20. First-time Google Shopping users only. Code valid through 2/2.

Go with the Pro version if:
  • you want to run 64-bit apps (like Emulators, etc) (the non-Pro tube only runs 32-bit apps)
  • you want it to act as a SmartThings hub
  • You want to run Plex Media server on it
  • You need USB ports for extra storage (no USB ports on the non-Pro tube)

non-Pro [google.com] $129.99

Pro [google.com] $179.99

Promo code only works if you've never purchased through Google Shopping.

Non-Pro (The Tube) has less RAM, can't run a Plex server, and runs 32-bit apps. It's a gimped version according to what I've read. I'd avoid.

I have 2 of the new Pros and they are great. 👍
price is the killer.. pro should be offered around 150 or lesser.. 3 year old hardware.. features removed.. fewer ports, storage and no controller.. yes I understand the upscaling and dolby licensing fees..but 200 is bit steep for what you get.
Depends on the streaming device, but key features:

AI upscaling
Plex Server (Pro)
Act as SmartThings hub (Pro)
GeForce NOW gaming (either via subscription or if you have GeForce GTX/RTX video card on your PC, you can game on it)
Google Assistant

Nvidia has a comparison [nvidia.com] vs. the other big boys.

Best deal I've seen yet though on these so I'll take it. I'm going with the pro for $20 off.

Oh weird it wasn't showing a discount on the Pro when I posted. I'll update.

How big of a difference does the extra 8gb make vs the Pro model.

Mostly I think it's if you want the USB ports for expandable storage vs SD card, and if you want to run Plex.

I meant is the non-pro noticeably slower than pro model? I wouldn't use this as a server. Just for Kodi, Jellyfin, etc. I have the old Shield in the basement. Thinking about getting this one for bedroom tv.

same processor, just 1 gig less or ram. doubt you'd notice a difference.

From what I've read, it's a bit more 'peppy' loading apps. I personally would NOT get the pro unless you want to run Plex server on it.

Same question. I don't need external HDD or SD. Just streaming and Youtube.
Thanks.

This tiny thing might require adding holes around the entire chassis if wanting to overclock like the previous shields. Or just put a fan on it.
