Ah, great. Have you heard of the solution for matlab and python with the mkl debug cpu type=5? It turns out even 3700x is on par with 9900k. Google that with reddit and you will find a lot of performance results compare before and after the fix.
edit: I have a 2700x and after the fix, the performance is significantly better. i use matlab and python for optimization problems with about 1.5x to 3x performance increase depends on operations.
You mean intel MKL using SSE instead of AVX is killing performance. What a noob lol

Matlab was forced to patch it, recently, though. Their intel loving ass got blasted.

Got this one from newegg a couple of days ago. With Asus X570 plus gaming board and air cool, able to OC to 4.4GHZ for all cores stable with VCORE @1.35V. Also OC Oloy 3000 RAM to 3300. No video gaming. Also got i9-9900K from Bestbuy, on an Asus Z390 board. OC to 4.8GHZ for all cores, and OC Oloy 3000 RAM to 3300. Since I do not game, I have no comment on their claimed performances in gaming environments. I do use both for extensive programming with parallel computation. Compared with i9-9900k, 3900X is about 30% slower in memory-intensive high-demand scientific-computations! (But from 4.8GHZ to 4.4GHZ is about only 10% difference.) To be honest, in this respect, I am quite disappointed! With parallel computations enabled, it is unrealistic for utilize all 12C/24T from 3900X or 8C/16T from i9-990k, since on X570 and Z390 boards, the maximum RAM is only 128GB. The same code renders about 50% CPU usage on both rigs. For the Z390-9900k rig, I do not have enough ram and have to cache memory to SSD, which presumably results in slower performance. In other words, if without memory caching, I could have seen more than 30% improvement from 3900x to 9900k. Again, this is only my personal experience with scientific computations using both CPUs, not a reflection on gaming performance.

What kind of experiment are you doing? And on what program?

its crazy right now with the prices of for these 8 core ryzen cpus. just a few months back i built a few machines with the 2700x, each cpu/MB combos from microcenter for roughly
$200 after tax and now there are no more in stock, on ebay and amazon the cpu alone now goes for $300. im afraid that these will go out real quick in the near future too.

Matlab and Python. Huge data set with extensive matrix calculations.

I think this is the best price it has been.

Already have the 3700X, debating if I really need the 3900X or if I should wait for the 4XXX desktops chips. PC is used for just about everything.. office, gaming, media, etc.

I was aware of the MKL/AVX issue. And I did follow the recommended fix.

Yes, I did! Try with huge matrix manipulations yourself and you will see the difference across the two processors. Of course, this may be specific to my particular problem, but was disappointed to see such a significant difference. This could be due to how the CPU communicates with RAM, as my data matrix could take about 100GB RAM.

This is quite weird. I do work on large data set, usually 1200x1200x800x5 on both matlab and python, and memory close to 90GB. I noticed significant improvement after changing. Have you test your system with the benchmark code provided by reddit community in the those threads? Maybe testing on those smaller scale problem first to see if you apply the fix correctly?

Just wait for Zen 3, unless you're really in desperate, immediate need of extra cores.

was able to get this for $450 with a 500gb western digital nvme drive at best buy last month.

this cpu is nice. paired it with gigabyte aorus master and h100i icue cooler. ran handbrake to peg all 24 threads. cooler kept it around 77*C. no OC every thing stock settings. i really like the CPU. the regular to performance is already a good deal. any discount on this processor is icing on the cake. if you need the threads, i'd suggest getting this cpu
