Based on the information from this thread and another community, I created a guide so that more people can hopefully navigate this deal easier and so questions won't be continuously repeated.

Because this will be a living document, I created a Google Doc for ease of updates: https://docs.google.com/document/...sp=sharing

Note: I am not a T-Mobile employee and this is my first-time doing a trade-in with a Hookup code, so I am learning alongside most people here; thus, my guide may not be fully accurate. Feel free to make suggestions for corrections if you notice any mistakes or parts that lack clarity. And if you found my guide helpful, please post a response here just so I know and will continue doing these. Thank you.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

Since this involves a trade-in, just want to remind folks that you can trade-in in person at a T-mobile corporate location and by doing so, avoid any surprises from mailing in your device

Starting 9/25 get a Galaxy S20 FE 5G for just $200 over 24 months via bill credits when you trade in an eligible device:

Apple: iPhone 11, XS Series, XR, X, 8 Series, iPhone 7 series
Samsung: Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy Note10 series, Galaxy S9 series, Galaxy Note9, Galaxy S8 series, Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S7 series
Google: Pixel 4/4XL, Pixel 3A/3AXL, 3/3XL
OnePlus: 8, 8 Pro, 7T Pro McLaren, 7T, 7, 7 Pro, 6, 6T
LG: V60 ThinQ, G8 ThinQ, G7 ThinQ, V50 ThinQ, V40 ThinQ

Or get one free via bill credits when you add a line.

THIS STACKS WITH THE $200 HOOKUP CODE! Remember, only one Insider Hookup code per account, whether it's the 20% or the $200. See here for details on that promo. Please do not ask for hookup codes in this post.

Please note: This WILL NOT stack with the free line. The free line ends 9/24, and this phone promo begins 9/25. There is NO WAY to get this phone for free using the free line. Please don't bother support trying to do it.

https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-pho...-s20-fe-5g

Click the magenta text at the top of the page to see the offer for $500 off. Must be logged in to see the offer. To see the "free with add a line" offer, open in incognito. Please note the $500 off page currently says "when you add a line and trade in" but the adding a line part is a typo and not necessary.

Completed port last night and submitted BYOD on the "free" line.

Now debating about trading in a S8 and using the type 3 code. Since i have other lines i could do this deal so 2 rebates aren't coming from the free line.

I do have the hookup 20 percent for a couple of years. From what i can gather it should be ok to use the type 3, is this correct?

I do understand once its used can't use it again on the account later down the road.
How did you get the code?
I tried reddit and discord to no avail.

Anyone have experience with TMobile Preorders? Also, how certain are we on this 14-day expiring thing with the hookup code?I chose standard shiping so there's a real possibility it'll hit the 14-day mark from the original purchase date (yesterday).
at least with "flagship" phones for me (S10, S20, etc) they all arrived EARLIER than launch date. Not sure they will do the same with FE as its not a "flagship" phone. However, there is a ton of hype behind it, so maybe they will ship early

What is the registration thing before you get the phone? I looks like once you put in the code it forwards you a screen to fill out details including requiring the IMEI to proceed.

Ordered via phone and they waived $20 upgrade. But they said I can't trade in in store. Should I reorder?
Quote from romodome :
That is what I am trying to do. My phone has a tiny small fracture (1/4 inch) on one edge. You can't see it unless you hold up to light or run your fingernail along edge. Pretty sure in store it will be accept but by mail I have heard they scrutinize. Checked to get a s8 screen replaced and it's $90. Not sure which I should do, pay $90 or hope it doesn't get rejected as is.
Again, if you preorder in the store or preorder/order online/phone/Tforce/etc you CANNOT perform the trade in at the store. Even if you bring it in after you receive the new phone, they will just help you ship it back the old one. They cannot accept trade ins for any preorders or phone/online orders.

The only way to have Tmobile complete the trade in in the store is if you go to the store on launch day and buy the phone then. They will inspect and complete the trade in there. Benefit of this is that they are less strict than if you were to send it in. Downsides - you lose out on the $200 hookup discount because this phone launches on October 2nd, hookup ends on Sept 30th. You also likely lose out on the $70 samsung.com accessory credit since terms state its for preorders only.

There is NO reason to risk yourself to covid by going into the store right now for a PREorder, theres no benefit at all - just call, purchase online, or chat to complete the order. At least with the latter, they may be able to waive the $20 upgrade fee

When you order over the phone, you have to be good looking for them to waive the upgrade fee.

But you just said "Benefit of this is that they are less strict than if you were to send it in." So yes many people will still go in store.

mind your risk and reward.

The TLDR is DO NOT go preorder in the store NOW. You wont be able to do the trade in the store period, they will defer it and you will have to mail it in

When you can trade in your phone directly the store:
  • Regular purchases in the store AFTER the phone has officially launched
Benefits: Less scrutiny on trade ins. Note: I have heard stories of accepted in-store trade in and later denied trade in due to water damage and other issues the employee glossed over
Negatives (for this deal): Loss of $200 hookup discount, potential loss of $70 samsung.com preorder credit

When you HAVE to mail in trade ins:
  • Preorders in the store
  • Preorders online/phone/chat
  • Orders after launch online/phone/chat

Benefits: $200 hookup discount, $70 samsung.com credit
Negatives: longer waiting period of acceptance of trade in. Higher scrutiny of trade in

Once the phone is accepted at the store, it is on store.

What if the store damage the phone by spilling water on it, it can not be my customer.fault.

That doesnt mean it doesnt happen where a customer has gotten denied after the fact. It would be an easy argument to win with customer care to reverse the denial. Im just saying that it has happened in the past

Be patient. Jman100 has said he should get new Type 3 codes sometime in the next 24 hrs and he'll reopen the ticket system and start distributing them on his Discord server:
https://discord.gg/Mm9njTx

I think there's a couple hundred people with tickets already waiting in line but he expects to get 500-1000 codes so everyone should be ok.

Oh, and anyone trying to get T-Mobile to give them one, don't tell them "Type 3" code. Jman made up that name to distinguish the three (at the time) versions of hookup codes and many TM people don't know what you're talking about. For Type 3 you need to tell TM that you want a code for the "$200 for existing customers" deal.

Good write-up and back-forth, but you and everyone else who is trying to do trade-in in store misses very important point and that is...$500 promotional trade-in (bill) credit promo doesn't have definitive end date. I hope that rings the bell and helps!

yeah good point, not sure when the $500 trade in promo ends. Hopefully it doesnt end on launch day when people with less than ideal trade ins want to trade in within the store

I have a feeling that both $500 & $70 Samsung would be gone on 10/2.
