Based on the information from this thread and another community, I created a guide so that more people can hopefully navigate this deal easier and so questions won't be continuously repeated.

Because this will be a living document, I created a Google Doc for ease of updates: https://docs.google.com/document/...sp=sharing

Note: I am not a T-Mobile employee and this is my first-time doing a trade-in with a Hookup code, so I am learning alongside most people here; thus, my guide may not be fully accurate. Feel free to make suggestions for corrections if you notice any mistakes or parts that lack clarity. And if you found my guide helpful, please post a response here just so I know and will continue doing these. Thank you.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

Since this involves a trade-in, just want to remind folks that you can trade-in in person at a T-mobile corporate location and by doing so, avoid any surprises from mailing in your device

Starting 9/25 get a Galaxy S20 FE 5G for just $200 over 24 months via bill credits when you trade in an eligible device:

Apple: iPhone 11, XS Series, XR, X, 8 Series, iPhone 7 series
Samsung: Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy Note10 series, Galaxy S9 series, Galaxy Note9, Galaxy S8 series, Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S7 series
Google: Pixel 4/4XL, Pixel 3A/3AXL, 3/3XL
OnePlus: 8, 8 Pro, 7T Pro McLaren, 7T, 7, 7 Pro, 6, 6T
LG: V60 ThinQ, G8 ThinQ, G7 ThinQ, V50 ThinQ, V40 ThinQ

Or get one free via bill credits when you add a line.

THIS STACKS WITH THE $200 HOOKUP CODE! Remember, only one Insider Hookup code per account, whether it's the 20% or the $200. See here for details on that promo. Please do not ask for hookup codes in this post.

Please note: This WILL NOT stack with the free line. The free line ends 9/24, and this phone promo begins 9/25. There is NO WAY to get this phone for free using the free line. Please don't bother support trying to do it.

https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-pho...-s20-fe-5g

Click the magenta text at the top of the page to see the offer for $500 off. Must be logged in to see the offer. To see the "free with add a line" offer, open in incognito. Please note the $500 off page currently says "when you add a line and trade in" but the adding a line part is a typo and not necessary.

Good write-up and back-forth, but you and everyone else who is trying to do trade-in in store misses very important point and that is...$500 promotional trade-in (bill) credit promo doesn't have definitive end date. I hope that rings the bell and helps!
$200 5g hookup type 3 is the one people are trying to stack , only when pre-order is done before end of this month.

Even if phone is pre-oder at the store, the store wont physcally take the tradein (two of stores near me say so)

Based on that , preorder is online then

I have a feeling that both $500 & $70 Samsung would be gone on 10/2.
Yeah it could happen since this is such a lucrative trade in deal. IIRC, back when the Oneplus 6t trade in deal happened, it only lasted about a week 11/1-11/8.

Updated the benefits/negatives with this info:

When you can trade in your phone directly the store:
  • Regular purchases in the store AFTER the phone has officially launched
Benefits: Less scrutiny on trade ins. Note: I have heard stories of accepted in-store trade in and later denied trade in due to water damage and other issues the employee glossed over
Negatives (for this deal): No one knows when this trade-in deal expires. It could potentially end on Oct 2nd, but hopefully later. If it is still alive on Oct 2nd, get to a store ASAP to purchase it. If the store runs out of stock, youre back at square one and must mail in your trade in.
Loss of $200 hookup discount, potential loss of $70 samsung.com preorder credit.

When you HAVE to mail in trade ins:
  • Preorders in the store
  • Preorders online/phone/chat
  • Orders after launch online/phone/chat
  • Orders (after launch) in store IF that store has run out of stock.

Benefits: $200 hookup discount, $70 samsung.com credit
Negatives: longer waiting period of acceptance of trade in. Higher scrutiny of trade in

You can pay off the 3a and use it as a trade-in for this phone. However, if you do that you will lose your credits (This is talking to their regular rep and then eventually confirmed with T-Force). So I don't know of any sure way not to lose the credits if you are using the 3a as a trade-in (of course other then getting one off of ebay).
If this is true, it is an entire change, and it better not be true! I got 10 Pixel 3a's on the deal from a year ago. Five of those I paid off and I continue to get credits. The other five I just paid off yesterday, as well as an I11 that I just paid off. TForce gave an entirely different answer last year, that I could pay off the phone and still get the credits, and that has been true. I assume this is still true, or else I just lost a lot of credits, particularly on the IPhone 11, for which I have only received 2 months of credits so far.

I am pretty sure it is if you pay off the phone, AND CLOSE THE LINE, that you would then loose the credits.

For plans with $10 add-a-line, like Simple Choice, does it make any sense to pay $200 out of pocket + S7 which is about $80-100 for the FE?
If I add a line, that's $240 (+ tax) over 24 months, similar cost to the trade-in deal, FE is free and at least you get another line this way.

Let me know if I am missing anything.

Be patient. Jman100 has said he should get new Type 3 codes sometime in the next 24 hrs and he'll reopen the ticket system and start distributing them on his Discord server:
https://discord.gg/Mm9njTx

I think there's a couple hundred people with tickets already waiting in line but he expects to get 500-1000 codes so everyone should be ok.

Oh, and anyone trying to get T-Mobile to give them one, don't tell them "Type 3" code. Jman made up that name to distinguish the three (at the time) versions of hookup codes and many TM people don't know what you're talking about. For Type 3 you need to tell TM that you want a code for the "$200 for existing customers" deal.
What I read on the discord page talked about contacting someone local to you and try to make an "appointment" with them to get a code. I even contacted Jman and he basically said the same thing. I guess you're saying that isn't really necessary to get a code?

I know it says you can avoid the $20 upgrade fee in the app, but just to double-check, does that also include if you use app chat? Thinking about sending in 2 S7 Edges, but online wants me to do separate orders so that I'm paying for shipping twice. Rather have one order with 1 shipping charge if there's no free shipping.

Once your new Galaxy S20 FE 5G - Cloud Navy - 128GB ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Samsung SM-G950U Galaxy S8 64GB Black - T-Mobile in good condition to receive a one‑time bill credit of $60.00.

What does it mean $60? isn't it $500?

Also how much time do I have to put in my new phone imei number?

No, chat will get you the $20 upgrade fee. Basically only no fee if you don't interact with an actual person, such as doing the upgrade online yourself.

One time trade in bill credit of $60, then you will get ($500-$60)/24 in monthly credits.

Have you ordered the phone? If you have you should be able to get past the first page where you enter the phone number and the code, unless you truly have an ineligible rate plan (I think only value essential is excluded).
Is the Value Essentials Plan the same as Essentials plan? I'm actually on the T-Mobile Prepaid Plan but called T-Mobile and they said I can be on the Essential plan and still trade-in phone to get the $500 off as bill credits. I plan to switch over to Essential to get this deal.

I think they're not the same. From my understanding, Value Essential is a promo plan that's 4 lines for $100. Hopefully somebody else can chime in on it.
