built in bluetooth that measures both cadence and resistance.
You can replicate cadence with added sensors but the ability to dial in resistance is important to most people..not to say you can use ANY bike and take the same peloton classes it just makes it more difficult to try to match what the instructor is driving you to do.
what I think is important is getting a good solid bike that has all the creature comforts you would want to make the workout beneficial for you and not end up being a coat rack
Thanks for the response. One follow up question, if you don't mind: so without the specific resistance number, you just end up cranking it up or down and guessing? Whereas this gives you a specific number?

But isn't the connectivity of this bike here, plus the included 6 month membership, a better deal than a similarly priced bike with better flywheel but no connectivity and no membership?

correct..most studio/spin bikes do not have resistance feedback at all..you basically turn the knob a set amount of turns to apply resistance..
If I where to buy a bike look for magnetic resistance and belt driven..both will make the bike very quiet compared to felt and chain driven bikes.
if you want to use peloton app and try to follow along with the instructor for resistance you would need resistance and cadence feedback as those are the two metrics that are key to your workout...again not needed but following along will be a little harder.
just remember the resistance number on a peloton goes up to 100..most bikes are around 30 (32 on a echelon) so you need to convert..cadence is the same

A good article explaining flywheel weight

https://groomandstyle.com/exercis...-vs-heavy/

The Keiser M3 plus only has an 8 lb flywheel, but its close to $2k. Its about how the bike is engineered.

Great explanation -- may I ask how you rate this bike here on those points -- does this Echelon have a belt drive and is on the quiet side?

my use..very quiet..you can look up some youtube videos comparing the echelon to peloton.
however come people have noticed some noise coming from the bike, I only noticed if the bike is not balanced correctly or had proper padding under the bike it will creek a little bit..but comparing it to my old Schwinn chain/felt resistance with a very heavy flywheel it is night and day comparison to how quiet the echelon is,..you could ride the bike near someone sleeping and probably not disturb them.

I'm currently using a Marcy recumbent bike, very basic, easy on joints, cost around $150. Is it worth upgrading to another stationary bike at 3 times the cost. I probably use the stationary bike 4 times a week for 40 minute sessions

Is this better than the Inspire Fitness IC1.5 from Costco for 519.99?

This isnt the amazon customer service thread.
But it is a good heads up about potential shipping delays
