Hey everyone, I bought this over a month ago with the colder weather coming, and I just hit my 100th ride this week so I've become pretty used to the system. I've posted this in similar threads to this and people have found it helpful, so here's my how-to Peloton guide that tells you what you need.

Required items you'll need:

Echelon bike [walmart.com]
Peloton app [onepeloton.com]
Peloton subscription (Note, if you have a friend who has a bike subscription you can ask if they'll create an account for you instead to save some money)
Two streaming devices
One to connect to the Echelon app [echelonfit.com] to display your statistics, usually a phone
One to connect to the Peloton app to display the classes, usually a tablet

Optional add-ons to improve the experience

Wahoo cadence sensor [amazon.com] - iOS support only - this attaches to your bike's gearshaft and can be connected to the Peloton app to integrate your cadence. You'll already be getting cadence information from the Echelon app on your phone, but if you want it to display in the Peloton app, you'll need this too.

Polar OH1+ heart rate sensor [amazon.com] - this wraps around your arm and can provide heart rate data to the Peloton app. Instructors will mention heart rate zones to target in advanced classes, so if you want to be able to follow along you'll need this, but it's not required. You will also get more accurate calorie burn counts with your heart rate being measured.

Note: If you are an iOS user and have an Apple Watch, you have a couple options instead of buying a sensor.

Use Peloton app on your iPhone. If you use your iPhone for displaying the class, it will have direct access to your heart rate from your Apple Watch.

Download HeartCast [apple.com] which allows your Apple Watch to broadcast heart rate over bluetooth. You can pair this with your iPad/Android tablet.

Bicycle mat [amazon.com] - The official Echelon mat is 27"x47", so this should fit underneath it to catch your sweat and protect your carpet/hardwood floor.
1-3lb dumbbells [amazon.com] - In some classes, the instructor will tell you to do some lifts, so you'll need a set of light weights
Peloton to Echelon resistance chart [etsy.com] - The instructor will call out numbers to change your bicycle resistance during the class, but the Echelon uses a different scale so you can print this out or buy one to have as a handy reference.
Gel bicycle seat cover [amazon.com] - If you are gonna be spinning for a long time, the gel will help ease any pain you have in your backside

To get the baseline experience done, you'll need to setup your Echelon bike as described in the manual. After physical setup is complete, download the Echelon app to your phone, and then plug in your bike and start the pairing process.

Next, if you bought either of the optional sensors you'll need to pair them with your ipad/android tablet.

Once paired, to get your Echelon app into freestyle mode to display your statistics, go to the bottom right of the app, select "More", then "Freestyle Ride".

Finally, you will then be able to load the Peloton app on your tablet, select a class, and start going.

Thanks, picked one up.

Don't forget Chase Freedom has Walmart as one of the 5% categories this quarter!

You have to pay for the Peloton app correct? My wife wants me to buy her one of these Peloton type bikes and I'm trying to understand the pros and cons. The one review said the only bike that was "open source" allowing you to use any app was the Bowflex but this is half the price.

Personally I figure I will be watching the bike sit in the corner for six months then I will sell it on Craigslist but maybe I'm wrong.

this is how alot of people are using the echelon bike..Freestyle app is free...you do not need to pay for the echelon app to access it..you can then use the peleton digital on another device, cast it or whatever and use free style for your cadence and resistance..just need to convert the resistance # to peloton
I downloaded the echelon app and I dont see the freestyle option? You have to sign in - with no way to register? My bike comes tomorrow. I ordered on the 13th and it shipped today.

So concept 2 bikeerg, bowflex c6 or this with zwift/peleton?
Bowflex c6 is same as Schwinn ic4. No real cadence readout (bar graph), known pedal issues, yet more expensive. I was actually interested in one until I researched more into it, then came back to the Echelon Sport. The bolleerg is $1040 + tax, and I haven't seen enough feedback on it to determine if it's worth it. Everyone seems to be pretty happy with the Sport, assuming they didn't receive a defective one.

Not if you just use it to hang clothes on.

What is your inseam? I am 36", and at max height this bike barely works.
I'm 34 but I'm 6 6. My legs are shorter than most my height. If you can get by with a 36 I should be OK. What do you think.

What height would be too tall for one of these units. I am very tall.
I'm 6'4" and it works for me....also weigh 230 and it can handle my cranking. I don't have it at the max height either. I typically have it set to a 14 seat height.

34 should be fine, but at 6'6 you might feel cramped in the front. IMO, it should work, but you might find an ex3 or a peloton more comfortable.

I read that the flywheel for the sport is on the lighter side.

Is there a meaningful issue with its lack of weight ?

This has been discussed on prior pages. The short answer: The weight of the wheel is in itself not a good indicator for a good (or bad) bike.

My bike arrived, but there's only a 90 day trial, not a 6 month as advertised. Anyone else having the same problem? Chat rep said to email CS...

Does anyone know what type of spin shoe this fits? Is it SPD?

No clip in shoes will work with this bike with the stock pedals, but you can swap out pedals for SPD or Deltas if you prefer. The stock pedals are flat with toe cages. I found an insert on eBay for SPDs (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Exercise-Spinning-Bike-Pedals-SPD-Cleats-Clips-JD-304/323495771759?ssPageNa... that you can add onto the stock pedals.

Yes, plain shoes will work.
