Hey everyone, I bought this over a month ago with the colder weather coming, and I just hit my 100th ride this week so I've become pretty used to the system. I've posted this in similar threads to this and people have found it helpful, so here's my how-to Peloton guide that tells you what you need.

Required items you'll need:

Echelon bike [walmart.com]
Peloton app [onepeloton.com]
Peloton subscription (Note, if you have a friend who has a bike subscription you can ask if they'll create an account for you instead to save some money)
Two streaming devices
One to connect to the Echelon app [echelonfit.com] to display your statistics, usually a phone
One to connect to the Peloton app to display the classes, usually a tablet

Optional add-ons to improve the experience

Wahoo cadence sensor [amazon.com] - iOS support only - this attaches to your bike's gearshaft and can be connected to the Peloton app to integrate your cadence. You'll already be getting cadence information from the Echelon app on your phone, but if you want it to display in the Peloton app, you'll need this too.

Polar OH1+ heart rate sensor [amazon.com] - this wraps around your arm and can provide heart rate data to the Peloton app. Instructors will mention heart rate zones to target in advanced classes, so if you want to be able to follow along you'll need this, but it's not required. You will also get more accurate calorie burn counts with your heart rate being measured.

Note: If you are an iOS user and have an Apple Watch, you have a couple options instead of buying a sensor.

Use Peloton app on your iPhone. If you use your iPhone for displaying the class, it will have direct access to your heart rate from your Apple Watch.

Download HeartCast [apple.com] which allows your Apple Watch to broadcast heart rate over bluetooth. You can pair this with your iPad/Android tablet.

Bicycle mat [amazon.com] - The official Echelon mat is 27"x47", so this should fit underneath it to catch your sweat and protect your carpet/hardwood floor.
1-3lb dumbbells [amazon.com] - In some classes, the instructor will tell you to do some lifts, so you'll need a set of light weights
Peloton to Echelon resistance chart [etsy.com] - The instructor will call out numbers to change your bicycle resistance during the class, but the Echelon uses a different scale so you can print this out or buy one to have as a handy reference.
Gel bicycle seat cover [amazon.com] - If you are gonna be spinning for a long time, the gel will help ease any pain you have in your backside

To get the baseline experience done, you'll need to setup your Echelon bike as described in the manual. After physical setup is complete, download the Echelon app to your phone, and then plug in your bike and start the pairing process.

Next, if you bought either of the optional sensors you'll need to pair them with your ipad/android tablet.

Once paired, to get your Echelon app into freestyle mode to display your statistics, go to the bottom right of the app, select "More", then "Freestyle Ride".

Finally, you will then be able to load the Peloton app on your tablet, select a class, and start going.

Thanks, picked one up.

Don't forget Chase Freedom has Walmart as one of the 5% categories this quarter!

You have to pay for the Peloton app correct? My wife wants me to buy her one of these Peloton type bikes and I'm trying to understand the pros and cons. The one review said the only bike that was "open source" allowing you to use any app was the Bowflex but this is half the price.

Personally I figure I will be watching the bike sit in the corner for six months then I will sell it on Craigslist but maybe I'm wrong.

I have an Elite Suito that I hardly use and now it just collects dust along with my bike. Probably wouldn't use a true stationary bike either.

I have the Peloton. AMA. The App is $40 per month but it is a family subscription. Up to six people you designate within your account as family can access. This includes access on all Apple, Android phones and tablets as well as AppleTV, FireTV. They have exercises for on the bike and off. Yoga, HIIT, cardio. As well as outside exercises like running and walking. Even meditation. The community is highly competitive, lots of badges to earn. It connects deeply with Apple HealthKit and works with Google Health. You can also connect it to Strava, Facebook, and Fitbit. I have an Amazon FireTV stick in the gym on a Sony TV, I use this for floor exercises. I also have the AppleTV and the wife uses it for floor exercises, Yoga, and meditation in the family room.
Good thing you're not a salesperson for Peloton because you just lost a sale with that pitch. I'll be honest, that seems like a giant waste of resources. I hope you give money to important causes on a regular basis because for gods sake who gives a crap about some badges.

Could someone teach me how to redeem the membership? I signed up the app and put in the purchase date as well as the SN, but there was only 14 days trial?

Yes..if you get the cs to do it for you..but if you look at the pricing of 6 month $120 that is for the ,$20 month membership which is not live classes.
No CSR will notice that unless you remind them. But why?

I bought one a couple of months ago. It's a nice, solid bike.

Pro: It's well made (and pretty heavy)- no rattles
Easy to assemble
Comfortable, and adjustable for pretty much anyone to use
VERY quiet in operation
Heavy flywheel

Con: Requires Echelon subscription (starts at $15/month) to use all the features (even if you don't want the spinning classes)
Handlebars do not adjust fore-aft (height only), limiting use for some elderly folks
Got an in-stock alert from Walmart after I tried to buy it, but took almost a month to ship, then another week to arrive. It was evidently not in-stock.

You can buy a secondary (third-party) sensor to get cadence info. That's another $40 + tax

There has been different info in this thread. Some people say it's 15 lbs, another person stated he called Echelon and they told him the Amazon variant was 15 lbs, but the Walmart version was 30+ lbs.

I don't think anyone has taken it apart to weigh the flywheel yet. So no one knows for sure.

But yet another person (somewhere in this thread) posted an informative article that explains that the weight of the wheel is not a good enough indicator for the quality of a spinning cycle.

No. I signed up for that $40 a month trial. CSR just extended it from 90 to 180 days.

exactly what I said.
The promo on walmart site is 6 months for $120 value which is the non live class version of the subscription.
However if you are able to sign up with the more expensive class and get the csr to extend to 6 months free then awesome!
