Hey everyone, I bought this over a month ago with the colder weather coming, and I just hit my 100th ride this week so I've become pretty used to the system. I've posted this in similar threads to this and people have found it helpful, so here's my how-to Peloton guide that tells you what you need.

Required items you'll need:

Echelon bike [walmart.com]
Peloton app [onepeloton.com]
Peloton subscription (Note, if you have a friend who has a bike subscription you can ask if they'll create an account for you instead to save some money)
Two streaming devices
One to connect to the Echelon app [echelonfit.com] to display your statistics, usually a phone
One to connect to the Peloton app to display the classes, usually a tablet

Optional add-ons to improve the experience

Wahoo cadence sensor [amazon.com] - iOS support only - this attaches to your bike's gearshaft and can be connected to the Peloton app to integrate your cadence. You'll already be getting cadence information from the Echelon app on your phone, but if you want it to display in the Peloton app, you'll need this too.

Polar OH1+ heart rate sensor [amazon.com] - this wraps around your arm and can provide heart rate data to the Peloton app. Instructors will mention heart rate zones to target in advanced classes, so if you want to be able to follow along you'll need this, but it's not required. You will also get more accurate calorie burn counts with your heart rate being measured.

Note: If you are an iOS user and have an Apple Watch, you have a couple options instead of buying a sensor.

Use Peloton app on your iPhone. If you use your iPhone for displaying the class, it will have direct access to your heart rate from your Apple Watch.

Download HeartCast [apple.com] which allows your Apple Watch to broadcast heart rate over bluetooth. You can pair this with your iPad/Android tablet.

Bicycle mat [amazon.com] - The official Echelon mat is 27"x47", so this should fit underneath it to catch your sweat and protect your carpet/hardwood floor.
1-3lb dumbbells [amazon.com] - In some classes, the instructor will tell you to do some lifts, so you'll need a set of light weights
Peloton to Echelon resistance chart [etsy.com] - The instructor will call out numbers to change your bicycle resistance during the class, but the Echelon uses a different scale so you can print this out or buy one to have as a handy reference.
Gel bicycle seat cover [amazon.com] - If you are gonna be spinning for a long time, the gel will help ease any pain you have in your backside

To get the baseline experience done, you'll need to setup your Echelon bike as described in the manual. After physical setup is complete, download the Echelon app to your phone, and then plug in your bike and start the pairing process.

Next, if you bought either of the optional sensors you'll need to pair them with your ipad/android tablet.

Once paired, to get your Echelon app into freestyle mode to display your statistics, go to the bottom right of the app, select "More", then "Freestyle Ride".

Finally, you will then be able to load the Peloton app on your tablet, select a class, and start going.

Thanks, picked one up.

Don't forget Chase Freedom has Walmart as one of the 5% categories this quarter!

You have to pay for the Peloton app correct? My wife wants me to buy her one of these Peloton type bikes and I'm trying to understand the pros and cons. The one review said the only bike that was "open source" allowing you to use any app was the Bowflex but this is half the price.

Personally I figure I will be watching the bike sit in the corner for six months then I will sell it on Craigslist but maybe I'm wrong.

Just put mine together. Anyone have an issue with the right pedal bolt getting stuck? I had to pry that thing on...seems to be holding up though.

Just got this bike and only did one ride so far however, does anyone else find max resistance not enough? It's difficult to ride at 32 resistance but out of the seat, I feel like I would like an option to crank it even higher.

Finally an update from Walmart. Ordered on 11th, shipped out today, will arrive this Friday. It's shipping cross country from CA, so that explains it.

Yes, right pedal bolt was extremely hard to screw on.

I just got my bike today and did a 10 min intro ride, 20min EDM ride, and now a 30 min EDM ride. I find it also that the resistance is just about right. This machine is for cardio and fitness, not heavy leg press. I feel like 32 is just right to get the legs pumping, put it on 32 and go for a minute or two standing, it will give you what you are looking for.

I got the bike and have 6 months of the "Echelon Sport Plan" ....every video I click says its not supported by the plan. What do I get access to with this supposed $19.99 / month plan?
I did the same, i called them and they had me on hold and ended up hanging up on me.
I went ahead and cancelled the 19.99 one and signed up with a different email and did the whole process and was able to get the 180 days for the 39.99.

Giving my 2 cents. This bike is awesome. I got it earlier last month (Thanks Slick Deals!) and have been using it all the time. It's super quiet and a very sturdy construction. My only complaints are that the free ride app is pretty limited, can't pause your workouts and you are not getting anything else besides the metrics (speed, miles, cadence, etc...). Also, the seat is not very comfortable for long rides, I got a gel pad that helped. I'm still surprised how quiet it is, maybe because my old workout bikes were the suck. Either way if you want to get some indoors riding I can't recommend this enough.

We got our bike from Walmart on Oct. 1, we are having constant Bluetooth issues with it losing connection to our iPhones. I contacted Echelon support but they are really slow to respond so far. Hopefully I can get it resolved.

Some classes I think have short bursts of really tough resistance and an option to go higher would be nice. But yeah, 2min of 32 is something I wouldn't be able to do.

So my issues with the bike are the size. I'm 6'1" with a 33" inseam, and I can't adjust the seat height or handlebar height high enough with the pin holes in the stems. I have to run it higher and crank down the knob. Seem this bike is not made for tall people. My old ProForm spin bike could accommodate a person a lot taller than myself. Also, the pedal bolt on the right side was also bad on mine. The plastic lock portion backed out. Not really sure why you need a lock bolt anyway. And I had to have CS give me the 180 day trial, since it only wanted to give me the 90 day. Otherwise the bike is good for the price paid. I like the micro adjustments and seeing the stats etc.

Earlier in this thread, there was someone asking for suggestions where to store hand-weights on this bike. As I was researching this topic myself, I came across the following article which rips into the practice of using hand weights during cycling workouts. Thought I'd share it, as it made me reconsider using hand weights in conjunction with the bike:

Some people are going to have broken knees, I wish I was kidding. If you don't built up an aerobic base and all the adaptations that come from many, many "slow" aerobic hours in the saddle, your joints and skeletal muscle won't have much stability olr strength.

We live in a culture that celebrates no pain, no gain, but that's very stupid. You want to do the minimum training to gain a training adaptation. For untrained and sub 10 hours a week people it's not going to need to be intense or painful.

Only very well trained athletes are going to be able to put a lot of instantaneous torque into a cycling workout without blowing up their joints.
