Forget the haters! My wife and her aunt have something similar. If the performance is the same, It's a great deal for less tech-savy uses, like home study, or for media consumption. Windows 10 works just fine once you switch out of S mode. Streaming services work, Zoom works, light browsing works (seen the wife with 10 tabs open in Chrome and Edge just fine). They pay bills, do online shopping, write emails - all that stuff. The kids play Roblox and Minecraft. Wife hooks up to the TV to do her workouts. The specs are all low-end, but it is $150.

So what are the cons? It's not thin, nor light. The camera is hot garbage to me, but the wife uses it for Zoom and hasn't complained yet, so there's that. The screen is ... meh. I mean, our phones have better screens, and I'll bet a $150 phone might as well. At first I was concerned about the 4GB of ram, but honestly, it hasn't been a problem YET. I'm sure, in the future we'll have to revisit this. I would like an ethernet jack, but it's hard to tell because they only use them in the house and we have good wi-fi. If we go on vacation, it might be a different story. Also, 128GB of storage is nothing these days. You will run out fast if you have a lot of media. But this problem isn't exclusive to this particular model, as the majority of laptops are in the same boat. So add the cost of external storage (SD card, external drive, cloud) to the overall price. Finally, the battery life is not good. You'll have to pay more to start getting decent longevity.

I'm telling you guys. Avoid these lower end Lenovo laptops. Already purchased and returned two similar models. RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. Even running basic tasks on Windows 10 is hard for these to handle, especially with only 4GB of RAM.

I just could never buy a laptop with a TN screen no matter how cheap. In fact if you gave me one for free I'd turn around and sell it.

Would this be decent for streaming netflix and occasionally accessing microsoft office or Google drive/docs? Wasn't a fan of chromebook's UI so looking into a cheap basic laptop instead

Definitely going to try and grab one online for our son. Good luck everyone!
Consider--------------on 11/4, I believe, maybe 11/11/, they have a much nicer one for $100. more if it meets your budget.

Thanks but our son mainly just needs it to play Minecraft. I'm pretty sure this can handle it.

Can this run Metro Exodus on max settings with RTX on while having steam client, Pandora, and 20 different pages of Chrome running in the background?
Might need to a stick a better cooler on it and overclock it just a tad bit. Otherwise, you should be golden as long as you're sticking with 1080p gaming and only at high (not ultra high) settings. /s

This CPU is actually usable. It perform similar to a 4 years old i3 which isn't that bad.

If there is an additional slot for SDRAM this could be actually usable.

I would just speed up processing (300%) by adding a ram disk and point all temp into the ramdisk.

It could work only if there is an extra slot and you are willing to add RAM.
Windows 10 is a resource hog and would limp in 4GB.

FYI If you look at the actual "Black Friday" ad on Wal-Mart's website you will see this laptop does not have a 10-key keyboard like the picture shown here. To some it may not matter but if you where going to use this for actual work......

Is it worth saving $50 over the $200 ryzen 3 motile that was on sale pre covid? I've been using that machine as the $200 benchmark and a lot of these machines don't really compare, even at that price point or above

I doubt you can overclock this machine. Bios settings are probably locked or non existent here, unless you can confirm otherwise

EDIT: apologies sarcasm not detected. Nothing to see here, carry on

It's both, 4GB memory soldered to systemboard with one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket.
If that's true that changes a lot.

Does this processor have the hardware encoder needed to run as plex server?

Edit: according to Intel this is Comet Lake with 10th-gen Intel graphics and supports QuickSync video. Other than being 2C/4T, it should good as a plex server but only if you upgrade ram and pay for plex pass.
