Sounds like a plan. The 128GB SSD would fill very quickly.
Thanks!

I actually have a spare 512GB microSD (Amazon sent me two by mistake last year and told me to keep it), so I would use that to expand the storage.

My internet is extremely slow, and I like to download tons of things.

My in-laws have 100mpbs optical fiber. Would this laptop be good enough to leave at my in-laws as a remote access computer? That way I could download everthing on weekdays and retrieve all the information on weekends while visiting them.

It would be plugged in all the time. Sounds like a good plan?
If you are downloading torrents or IP protected items, don't do this to them.. Instead upgrade your own internet assuming there is an option.

If you plan to use VPN for downloads, you will not be able to remote connect to the laptop if its on VPN. If you are able to connect via remote desktop while its on VPN, then your VPN is not in full tunnel mode and the ISP is seeing everything being downloaded.

This laptop will need more RAM and space with in months. If you have those to spare, it's great deal. If not, $249 makes perfect sense.

Yep.

See if there's a lenovo software app or bios setting that will let you help protect the battery by charging it partially when plugged into a.c. All the time.

....

As for the worry about torrents and vpn in the other reply, you can put in a second usb network card. Remote into one card, vpn out the other.

Would this be decent for streaming netflix and occasionally accessing microsoft office or Google drive/docs? Wasn't a fan of chromebook's UI so looking into a cheap basic laptop instead
Yes. Any laptop within the past five years can do Netflix and office and web fine. These are low demand apps - barely stress the laptop. Heck, the fact you can do the same on phones prove that.

Not sure about Netflix but youtube is fine as long as not 4k or 60fps. At least I could achieve that with my cheap 14w. So far with 14W I am able to edit pic, video editing, google doc/drive without problem using ubuntu-mate 20.04LTS. This one is much more powerful than 14W so if 14W could I don't see why not.
https://ark.intel.com/content/www...0-ghz.html

Processor in this laptop fully supports 4k 60hz with Quicksync accelerated decoding of media files and streams.

Ie.should have no issues at all work Netflix, 4k movies, etc.

Man I love lenovo keyboards typing this on a t440p right now. But, it's pretty heavy by 2020 standards. Get this for travel leave the t440p at home? CPU would be a pretty big downgrade from the 4700mq? Ram as easy to upgrade?
Cpu.
Passmark yours. This ones about 2400. Not bad, not fast, just fine.

Not a big deal. The first thing you do when you buy a cheap S Mode computer is turn off S Mode and install Chrome.

If this was a Chromebook it would be a good deal. It's definitely worth the price, you could re-sell it for more a week later. But don't buy it for anyone who is a tech snob, performance will be lagging.
"Install chrome"??

Wow, that's the fastest way to make any laptop run Slower and eat more Battery than Edge, which is optimized for all that.

https://www.windowscentral.com/mi...ng-gap?amp

https://beebom.com/microsoft-edge...e-opinion/

Classic Edge or New Edge, both better.
Install Ublock Origin extension for even better performance.

Absolutely don't install or use Chrome if possible!
You'll just cripple this poor little laptop.
