for those of you who say "omg .3megapixel for the camera, what nonsense is this?" I would like you to read the following zoom message:
"For the time being, standard video, not HD video, will be activated when 3 or more participants join a group meeting. HD video (720p) will be activated for 2 participants or when a Zoom Room or Conference Room Connector joins a group meeting. HD video (1080p) will only be activated for selective use cases such as large format broadcast events. ". Also this:
"Group HD will activate 720p video quality for the active speaker video layout in a group meeting."

Which pretty much means that anyone using this for distance learning, will be at 480p. If your teaching, and are the active speaker, you probably will have a second camera or a share screen- and that will be the part at 720P; the 480p camera would just be the little tiny box.

As far as ram goes, its 4gb, that is supposed to be soldered. If there is still an empty slot at the bottom, all we would need is a 4gb chip to move it to 8gb, and allegedly *may* run in dual channel.

128gb should be good for the core stuff- stick a micro SD in the slot and we should be golden

Would this be good for using something like Shadow or Stadia? How are the monitor and keyboard?

depends on your VPN. OpenVPN is pretty high in overhead (in comparison), but its single core for it, so single core speed is the only reveleant thing. 8 cores wont really perform any better. Depends on what level of AES you have to comply with. I've used it with an atom, but it almost has as much to do with what the vpn server is as well.
Ram shouldn't make too much of a performance difference for your vpn. Also the similiar questions about your remote desktop- Chrome remote, or something else?

the ram will help a lot though with video- as part of that ram is being sucked into the video card I think.

If your using wireguard (which isn't technically certified and whatnot) the throughputs are pretty amazing. Blows openVPN out of the water. Some of the routing is limited and immature however- just depends on your needs.

128gb should be good for the core stuff- stick a micro SD in the slot and we should be golden. However in the other 3's, there appears to be space for a standard sata drive.
The specs say only 1 ram slot & it's soldered.
Might be upgradeable if good with a soldering iron

That is what it says, but thats also because they didn't want this budget notebook to be user upgradable. It doesn't mean the compatibility isnt there. As the other person posted a link to the ideapad 3 teardown, there are many models, and some come with a memory module installed in a slot. Some come with a m2 storage and some come with sata drives. In the particular example in the video, it came with a 128gb m2 and a 1tb 5400RPM sata drive and a memory chip.

From a manufacturing standpoint, a lot of these will be made exactly the same. From what I can see on the board itself (from the video) is that pretty much all models come stock with 4gb soldered- any models with more ram (up to 12 total) would just be a variant of a 4 or 8gb sodimm 2600 DDR4.

One bit of annoyance is that there is a sata ribbon to the motherboard. Its easy enough to double side tape a sata SSD drive in, its that sata connector to the MB which may or may not be present.

You're not providing any groundbreaking information here. Any buyer with half a brain has already looked up the Passmark score and has determined that this laptop will meet their needs. For instance, those needing it only for office and YouTube purposes can add 4GB of RAM for $12 and be perfectly content with it.
