In this case I think it's more along the lines of "you get what you pay for" and not what was posted above saying it's a status symbol for most. Maybe a few, but not most.
You are paying for the quality and customer service here. If you use a blender a few times a week then you should consider a Vitamix or Blendtec. With that said, yes $260+ is steep for most of us but if you can find a reconditioned unit below $200 with the standard 5 year warranty I think it's a great buy.
Ask yourself how often you see comments from people about their Ninja or Nutribullet dying. You don't hear that about Vitamix, their workmanship, warranty and customer service is solid.
