I've been looking for deals on the M18 String Trimmer recently, but I just don't think it's the time of year for those to pop up. Instead I found this deal on the Pole Saw kit and then you can always purchase the other attachments when needed.
The HomeDepot deal has a 9.0ah battery, Northern Tool 8.0ah. I got in the 2x xc4.0ah + charger + bag + blower deal from HomeDepot last week, thinking to return it, and get this combo.
I would take the High output 8.0 battery over the 9.0
Looks like northern tool does not have free shipping...
Good point on the no free shipping. I did free shipping to my local store for pickup instead, but that does make it slightly more expensive than HD. Like you, however, I preferred the 8.0XC battery over the 9.0. Thanks!

Thanks for pointing out that Northern Tool has the High Output 8.0ah, which I didn't realize. The 9.0ah from HomeDepot is High Demand, for any size from 9.0ah to 12.0ah. There's a good discussion about High Output vs High Demand here - https://www.reddit.com/r/Milwauke...tput_uses/. For a quick reference, I copied a few relevant posts from there:
"High Output appears to be better suited for drills, saws, etc, with short bursts of power, but probably not as good for sustained use, such as leaf blowers, etc."
"CP, XC, and HD are just used to describe the size of the batteries. CP are small compact batteries between 1.5 and 3 AH, XC are medium size extended capacity batteries between 3 and 8 AH, and HD are high demand batteries between 9 and 12 AH. HO means High Output, which is their newest battery technology. In some tools, they run essentially the same as any other battery, but in some tools they output more energy, improving the performance of the tool. Your tool should never run worse on a high output battery. The great thing about Milwaukee's battery selection is that it allows you to find the right balance between battery weight and run time. If you're looking for something lighter weight, get a CP or XC. If you want longer run time, get a HD."
"The HO batteries "delivering" more power is a bit of a misnomer. They use physically larger cells in the battery pack typically, and this means that under heavy loads the voltage sags less than it would on a smaller battery. This is the reason that you notice an increase in power on high drain stuff, but little to know difference on the lighter stuff, as it was never drawing enough current to cause significant voltage drop."

FYI Not sure when the free shipping happened but northern tool has a free shipping coupon code: 273543
The coupon code space in the cart would not show up on my desktop. But when I looked on my phone it had a spot for it!
Hey guys. Unfortunately the northern tool site is wrong. Both combos come with the 9.0 battery. Still a decent deal I think just wish it came with the 8.0xc.

Can confirm just got the kit in the mail from Northern tool and it looks like it is just the 9.0 lame... Deciding if I should complain or just deal with it.

I had to look them up once I read your comment. Never realized the 9.0 wasn't H.O. Thanks for pointing it out.

That's the link for the pole saw at HD. The string trimmer combo I see at HD is $429. Do you have another link?
