Nice Dumbbells, and I know they are in high demand, but I'll wait for a deal.

why is this a deal? I bought it two years ago less than $200 a pair when it was on sale, believe the deal was posted at SD.

I just don't even understand why they would be accepting B2C orders with that much lead time. Imagine how long their B2B businesses are waiting for fulfillment. The businesses will wait, and patiently, without caring. The customers will just grow weary, angry, and frustrated. They obviously don't have them in the warehouse and are waiting on manufacturing from China.
Yup. It's called pre-order then they can call up factories (not necessary in china anymore) and say we need THIS much sets. Then wait for cargo ship traveling over sea for about a month to arrive here in USA.......... Tesla does Pre-order the best, heh.

How much were these selling for pre-COVID?

People are saying they were below $200. Only the filthy rich buy these now. Smarter for the rest of us to wait.

I had actually seen a set of SelectTechs in my local Dick's a few months ago and was tempted to get them until I read about the plastic deterioration issues. I ended up getting a pair of Powerblock Personal Trainers about a month later. It seems almost negligent that they'd design a product that could, through simple wear and tear rather than abuse, degrade to the point that they could potentially drop a plate on some critical body part.

FWIW Powerblock is the defendant in a class action lawsuit beginning, I believe, around 2017. Defective/unsafe product claim. Not surprisingly, the urethane that is the only thing keeping weights off of a customer's face, is prone to failure under certain conditions. I don't know if the PB class action expanded its subclass, but when I originally read about it, it included customers dating back to at least 2010...though PB's design has been unsafe long before that. To be fair, every single adjustable dumbbell design on the market today (including Ironmasters) has issues related to safety and/or durability.

552s were $299 retail for a while. Increased to $349 relatively recently...perhaps 2019. 1090s were $699 increased to $749. They've been selling at 50-100% markup on secondary markets such as eBay since at least March.

It's not clear why Bowflex took the better part of 10 months to get its act together as far as its supply chain. It only very recently began offering the 552 again on its website...and even then with a 3+ month wait.

Tis true. However, Bowflex, owned by the Nautilus Group, need not play the pre-order game. The company could easily ship several full 40 foot containers to North America alone and sell them out virtually overnight.

If they were a smaller lesser known, undercapitalized operation it might make sense. It's unclear why they chose to go this route with a 3+ month lead time. In any case, hopefully they actually deliver on the promise. If they promise 3 and deliver in 6 they're going to have a PR issue on their hands.

Just want to offer a data point on how long it takes to get mine:
I ordered mine on Sep 1 (through an email code) and was given the three month shipping estimate. It was shipped on Oct 26 and delivered about a week later in two shipments (same day, but 4 ~ 6 hour apart).

In for a set hopefully they don't take all 3 months. Is it possible to upgrade the weights? Seems like I should be able to grab som more of the heavier plates for increased weight.

Proof of gains? I ask because these weights seem incredibly light.

50lb dumbbells and a preachers curl should be plenty. Most people don't need to look like a body builder. If that's what your after this won't work. Bench press with dumbbells is also way more difficult than with a barbell I find. 50lbs isn't a ton for bench press but it's enough to get people by

I agree. There are creative ways to get more out of 50 for most people, unless you are hardcore body builder types .
