deal [adorama.com]

$699 + free s/h

These need a solid amp to get the best out of them. These also have the latest headband, which is not only much softer, more comfy but does not rely on rubber tension for clamping power, so it should be much more reliable.

It also comes in a new color and box is marked Adorama exclusive
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Did you try to audition them to prove your claim?
I did. I bought HE6 and my friend loaned me LCD4 along with Chord Dave amp(that how he is insane). My headphone amp is Monolith platinum driving all my power hungry cans. My music amp is Yamaha A-S1200. I spend almost month playing with them and than same did my friend as he was interested in HE6 himself.
Bottom line i sold HE6 after all without any regret.
HE6 is very good sounding cans when driven properly, but they no way in same league as LCD4. Sorry, it is what it is. For that price it's definitely good buy if you already own good amp. Otherwise it will open gate for more spending in order to let the sounds right.

Hot take: have played this hifi game many years and figured out that amps and dacs are a solved problem, $100 gets you top tier subjective performance. Fight me

On topic: sundara is hifiman's winner, if I'd go audeze/focal if I were looking to spend more

Agreed. My ears aren't good enough to tell a difference, and it's usually subjective/preference anyway and I just get used to it. I'm happy with my $50 headphones. Assuming a semi decent dac.

Worth is subjective. You pay increasing amounts for smaller and smaller increments of improvement in sound as you go high end. It may be worth to some who are looking for that illusive perfect sound.

My favorite ones are the 60+ who tank thousands for these types of overpriced products (because they finally can afford them) even though biology already wrecked havoc in the hearing department...

My experience with headphone amps and sources throughout the years, is that components have more-or-less subtle influences on the sound signature (provided they aren't complete trash). My biggest revelation and drastic improvement with my HE-400i came when the stock pads deteriorated, and I swapped them for Dekoni Elite sheepskin pads. Sound was sooooo much better and fuller after that, I haven't looked back or sideways since.

I decided to take the leap. Im going to find out how well my THX789 powers them. If its not up to the hype Ill either try powering them off my home stereo or return them.

I bought the Focal Elegia and Etymotic ER4XR both recently and they have been so much fun to listen to. Im eager to find out if these are the next level or if Im just "chasing the dragon". Either way is fine with me. I love music and listening with great headphones or speakers adds worlds more to my enjoyment.

Depends on how loud you listen. My schiit jot is close to the 789 in terms of power and it feels a bit starved for power...
Thanks for your reply... Im hoping it will be enough... Based on your reply Im guessing it may not be. That said if I have to power them off a bigger amp I probably can do that too.

Im still waiting on the Focal Clears to hit the $899 point again. Ill definitely be buying a set at that point.

Really just depends on how loud you listen. I found my Jot was enough at lower volumes on high gain, but there's absolutely no headroom cuz I could max it out and still take more volume...I don't listen to headphones loudly so your loud may be different than mine...I try to keep it around 85dbA since that's what OSHA says is safe for 8 hour period.

I really didn't believe people when they said these need more power when I first got my V1s since I thought my Jot was just fine, but then I hooked it up to my Emotiva BasX A100 (with the full power jumper enabled) and found it was able to hit volume a lot easier. Bass response is where I think a lot of the difference is since amps work harder in the lower region. Amps also add their own flavor to the sound. I found the Jot sounds leaner than the BasX at the same volume.

I then went down the amp rabbit hole using my dad's old gear. Settled on the Onkyo M504. If you have an old stereo amp laying around, you can buy speaker taps and use them. There's a whole thread on headfi about which amps can power the HE6.

Or...You might find that the THX is perfect for you and not have to deal with stereo gear Smilie Btw, listen to them for a while (or break them in) before passing judgement. I found after a while, the high end smoothed out a bit. There is still sibilance, but not nearly as when new.

Thank you for the tips! Much appreciated. I will do those things you mentioned.

Approximately how much burn in time would you guess they needed before they were smoothed out and broken in?

I didn't keep an exact hour count. I'd guess over the course of a week or so listening here and there. I'm one to just listen right away, others don't listen until they burn in.

UPDATE

I received my set today. Ive listened about 30-40 minutes. I did a direct comparison to my Focal Elegias. I am powering them from my THX 789 and Grace DAC. All inputs are balanced..

First off, these things sound really good. The sound is full in all frequencies and the THX powers them just fine. I could definitely cause hearing loss if I was not careful. The Elegias and H6SE are on par for Clarity. The HIfiman sound like Im standing on the stage. The Elegias sound like Im in Row 15-20.

They sound better than the Elegias no question. H6SE sound bigger, closer, rounder more holographic. I love my Elegias, they sound really good. They are closed back and work great for settings requiring sound isolation.

The hifiman look and feel cheap. Not impressed at all with build quality. For a luxury item they feel like a 1990's Ford Taurus. The Elegia feel and look like a Rolls Royce. Honestly, Focal fit and finish is so good.

They are 100% worth $699. No question.

My question is are they better than the Focal Elex for $550 on Massdrop. Im going to find out.

Ive decided its probably not possible to get appreciably and objectively better sounding than these things.

These or the Elex will be my last stop. Ive heard so many good things about them Im going to give them a try.

How's the comfort and clamp force? I tried elex and I think it was worse than elegia in terms of clarity. Supposedly elex is closer to elear's quality.

I also heard although while it may get loud people always say to get the dynamics you need a speaker amplifier.

The comfort and clamp force is fine siting up. They do not pinch or feel heavy. I have a pretty big head. Lying down the headphones sag a bit, not terribly and nothing I would consider unacceptable.

I've heard the same thing about dynamics. I am trying to find an adapter to run them off my stereo to find out. Ill report back if I get one before this deal ends.

The headphone box is pretty sparse. It comes with the cans and a cord. There is also a warranty card. . The cord has an attachment to go balanced or single ended.
