When you added the line, was it set up as BYOD or just added a line.

I set mine up as BYOD but the manager refused to change it to buy-a-phone deal Frown

Because with a11 , one is potential ahead (+100) whereas with pixel , one is -250 in the hole and -80 with SE.
Thats only true if you buy either phone and toss it into the drawer. However, if either one is to be used then the Pixel/SE is the better deal for a better phone.

This could be YMMV.
My friend applied for free line through T-Mobile support Christmas Eve and tried to get a11 promo instore at Costco today. He was denied because Costco rep said he has to apply for the free line instore and to get free a11 + $100

Don't complicate things for the kiosk reps, they know nothing. There are no such things as BYOD line or buy-a-phone line. They simply add a line to your account. Then they attach the rebates on that line, so bring in the paperwork you got when you opened the line. I assume you got the $100 shop card rebate form at the time.

I think it's reasonable to assume that the line was originally opened at Costco to get their deal.

I gave them my old phone imei and got the byod rebate form. I called before going back to Costco. The rep told me just come in and tell anyone I want to do an exchange.

They rep was not in today, another person assisted me. I gave them my byod paper, she wrote void on it and printed me the new rebates. She told me to use the same sim I got last time.

You have to add a line from Costco to get the promo.

That obviously won't work. The reason Costco can offer this promotion is because if you add the line at Costco, they get a commission from Tmobile. And they are giving you a11 as a part of that commission.
If you added the line through Tmobile, Costco gets 0 commission. And thus there is no reason for them to give you that a11 promo. Costco Tmobile is a completely separate entity from Tmobile.

Just wanted to add another piece of info regarding getting a phone deal with the free line.

For LOU3, after I opened a free line at Costco, I chatted with T-Force trying to get the free Pixel 4a 5G with trade-in. The rep insisted charging me the $20 assistance fee and said to avoid the fee I could just do it myself online as an upgrade to the free line. She guaranteed I would get 100% credit even though the online order system only showed 50% even with trade-in. I gave in and ordered it online myself and she was right. My Account History is now showing the correct promotion with 100% credit.

For LOU4, this time the only available deal for the 4a 5G is 50% off with no trade-in. After I opened the free line at Costco, I went to my account and ordered a 4a 5G. But this time I made a mistake. I did it as an upgrade to my primary line instead of the new free line. I contacted T-Mobile and the rep told me the order was being processed and there was nothing she could do but she told me not to worry because it would still work. Again she was right. After the phone was shipped, my Account History is now showing a new entry indicating that my primary line (not the new free line) is enrolled in a promotion for the 4a 5G with 50% credit.

So it seems like as long as you recently signed for for a new line in your account, you'll get the eligible device discount regardless of which line you used to order the device.
You did everything in the order it was supposed to and the promos showed up the way T-Mobile's system was able to recognize. All because you did 1 transaction at a time.

It gets all screw up when you do a few transactions the same day, or a few days after and the systems can't recognize which promo links to which line. It does not matter if you do it Online or the CSR does it for you.

Exactly, TYSA. At least someone finally "gets it."
