Anyone using it in the crawlspace to keep humidity low? I realize that I need to close bunch of vents so as not to dehumidify the whole city. Thx

Can you access your crawlspace easily (clean the filter every month, check on it)? Will it have a hose running outside from it? They obviously make better machines for the crawlspace but if you would check on it like you would an indoor one I dont know why it wouldn't work.

I put one of these in my shop and it was WAY better than nothing.

I do. This is what I did:

- Seal foundation vents
- Set dehumidifier to 60%
- Put a fan on the opposite side of crawlspace to circulate air
- Set up a Wyze cam to notify me when the dehumidifier catches on fire
- Install a Nest smoke alarm to notify me when the dehumidifier catches on fire
- Placed a large fire extinguisher next to the crawl space door for when the dehumidifier catches on fire
- Placed a wireless temp/humidity sensor in crawl space so I can monitor levels from the main level.
- used 10mil plastic sheeting and tape to make the floor vapor barrier even better(there were gaps and stuff that I sealed up better

Did you notice an increase in your electricity bill?

Not at all. It's less efficient than running a heat pump for heating purposes but in the winter, it doubles as a really small electric portable heater. So my central heat running less is enough to offset the energy this unit uses. I plan on using it less in the Summer as air conditioning already dehumidifies the air.

Are these good to put in the shower or they don't work that fast? Otherwise now that it's cold I've been doing the opposite and running the humidifiers

I use a dehumidifier in my bathroom. I had a 70 gal unit that worked awesome, but it died. I replaced it with a smaller unit, can't remember what size. The new one doesn't keep up with the humidity created in the bathroom. I have to run it for a couple hours after each shower to clear out the humidity. I also need to investigate why my Panasonic fan isn't pulling air. That's been on my to do list for 3 years now.

I am looking for something with built in pump. This looks like it does hot have one.
No pump, but you can still attach a hose and elevated it above the drain for continuous use. If you have a Costco membership they have the Danby 50 pint model with a pump for $180 I believe. All the other models I've seen with pumps cost a fair amount more.

the bathroom is tiny and gets crazy steamy when the kids take showers. It really needs a vent but no money to do that right now.

Would this help with a moldy 2-car garage?

Assume I've done everything else humanly possible to solve the problem. Thanks

I'm not sure how the ones with built in pumps work, but if you have this somewhere where a drain isn't close, or it cannot drain with gravity, then you need a pump to get the water there. I have one of these and bought a separate pump. It beats having to empty out the container over and over again.

If it's that humid in there, then this'll run forever and you'll be paying a ton in electricity. I recently decided to tear down my garage that also had mold issues. The problem with my garage was that it was old, likely from the 70s or so and the sill plate was level with or below ground due to soil being added to my yard to solve water problems. This problem was made worse when someone poured another slab over the existing one so the sill was about sort of surrounded by dirt and concrete. By the time I moved it, the sill plate was mostly gone from rot. I also had leak due to shoddy roofing work that had been done. Also, my fascia boards aren't really protected well so they're prone to moisture. Since it's old, it has no vapor barrier. Fixing the issues would all be temp so not worth it imo. Maybe you have one or more of these problems too.

Will this help with stale basement smell?

I live in Midwest where it's humid in warmer months.

I have had this exact model running in my basement for at least a year straight. Absolutely zero complaints. Keeps the humidity at 50 regardless of the time of the year. I give a once over every quarter just to make sure things are in order. I'll be buying a replacement if and when this one ever quits.

I can't tell if you are serious or trolling!
But if you are serious, then advise about vents, fan and vapor barrier is spot on and I hade done those. Otherwise, sounds like a lot of safeguard with false sense of security. What if you are not home? And, 60% seems too high.

Not trolling. Is what I did. Working well. My house burned down in 2016 and I was homeless for 2 years with my wife and newborn. $80 in extra precautions here is fine to me.

What if fire when not home? Same as if fire anywhere else and not home. This time, smart house, so I am aware of everything going on around it.
