In the interest of not misleading anyone, I'm updating the title, product and the store. The original post is at the bottom. Note the first few comments were with regard to that model only.

There is now a newer model, available for pre-order on B&H for $900 (free shipping):

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...9YQAvD_BwE

The newer one seems brighter (3200 vs 2200), has a low input lag of 5 ms, and high refresh rate of 240Hz (under 1080p) so it should be good for gamers. Now it is believed 701 has RGBW color wheel while the 728 has RGBRGB (so more accurate color but less bright).

This was my original post:

I wish I didn't get a used Epson (2150) just a couple of days ago. Even a decent entry level 4K projector new would still be worth the extra $400 I would have had to pay over an excellent 1080p one which 2150 is.

https://www.adorama.com/vspx7274k...=adl-gbase

At that price, it's obviously a pixel shifted 4K (or really UHD) projector. Have to make this disclaimer so people don't come in with their real 4k vs faux 4k and UHD vs 4K arguments ;-).

P.S.: this is currently on back order so don't buy it if your Super Bowl party depends on it ;-).

UPDATE: I now do not recommend this projector unless you get a price. Please see below discussions about the newer models.

Not sure what you mean by the audio extractor. You basically connect the other end of the HDMI cable to AV receiver/soundbar. Most of the AV receivers are since 2014 support 4k video with 60 Hz (HDMI 2.0 spec). For example, your video source is a media player (Fire TV 4k, roku, google chromecast, appple tv), connect the player HDMI to AV receiver input. Connect another HDMI cable (output) from AV receiver to projector. This gives full 4k support for video. Hope that helps
If I have Xbox and 1 more android device (say chromecast or amazon box), how do you connect the 2 devices to the projector and atmos soundbar (thinking samsung) for optimal 4K video and atmos audio effect?

I have never used a soundbar before but if the sound bar support multiple components inputs just like AV receiver, Connect the output of soundbar to projector I think. AV receiver is the ideal choice though

Gave up waiting on bhphotovideo, and paid the extra $10 to order from Amazon. I'll let you know what I think of it.

I'm confused, sorry. Why is it showing as a preorder on B&H but the seemingly same model has reviews going back a long time on Amazon? Thanks!

PX-701-4K is the newest model 3200 lumens. The older reviews are for the other models in the same Viewsonic family released in 2018 and later.

If anyone is willing to take a bit of chance, this is $660 on eBay:

Viewsonic PX727 4K Projector 0 Hours

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Viewsoni...Sw5PRgGEtN

FWIW, I (OP) actually got a Viewsonic X10-4KE for its short throw.

Mine came in Saturday. Took me about 5 minutes to decide to return it. Colors are completely washed out, blacks dominate the screen. Latency didn't feel nearly as good as the uhd50x. It was actually very noticeable in gaming I would guess around 50ms at 4k just be feel alone. I honestly didn't mess around with the settings or colors much at all. The color was so bad that I didn't feel like going into depth with the settings so maybe you guys can tap into some other stuff but I knew pretty much as soon as I hooked it up that it was going back. Super disappointed Frown

Thanks for the quick review. As I said earlier, I bought X10-4KE for its short throw (I need something that's either short or long throw for my basement). I notice the same color issue that you did, though if I play HDR content, it would look better/brighter, but still quite saturated, especially red, and to a lesser extent, green. So yes, it's possible to get good viewing experience, but you will have to play with settings, hardware, etc.

I hooked Apple TV 4K to the projector. The Apple TV auto-sets its resolution to 4K HDR 60Hz for the projector and it doesn't look good at all, even for 4K HDR content from Youtube. Strangely, both my LG and Sony 4K Ultra HDR players do better, perhaps it may have something with do with the 24 Hz (Apple TV doesn't have that), or my Internet connection. In the end, I have to set it to 1080p SDR for the box.

So my overall impression is that this (probably along with other entry-level Viewsonic 4K projectors) is good as a basic and inexpensive 4K projector. If you care a lot about color accuracy, projector placement (very limited or no zoom, optically or digitally, no horizontal keystone, no lens shift) etc, you should probably look elsewhere. I don't play game so I have nothing to say there.

I'll keep mine, because it fits my needs for a) having some 4K/HDR projector, b) having a portable projector. I will be on a fairly long vacation soon so this comes in handy, c) with its short throw and portability, I actually often use it to project to my bedroom ceiling (I have a bad back so I have to lay in bed more than average).

Dang that's disappointing. I assume you have the UDH50x?

How would the colors compare to the Epson Home Cinema 1060 that's on close out for refurbished ($399)?

Did you try gaming at 1080p instead of 4k? I saw a video that said the 240hz is only at 1080p not 4k.
