They would be my hero if they came out with an Acrobat-like program. Imagine paying $50 for an Acrobat Pro-like app instead of the highway robbery prices Adobe charges!
Finally somebody took advantage of Adobe's greed.

I assume you can't install this on multiple machines, even if you're the only person using all those machines? For instance, install on both my laptop and desktop.
The workbooks are also really good but not included in this sale. They were 35% off during the BF sale. Something to keep an eye on later, or just splurge now..
The tutorial videos on the site are almost as good though. And free.

As long as it's the same platform (i.e. both Windows) you can install it on both machines without issues.
If one is Windows and one is Mac, then you would need an additional license for the second platform.
I have all Windows 10. Do they cap it at some point? I have more machines than I care to admit here.
lol I haven't tested with a high number of activations so I'm not sure if a hard cap exists, but according to multiple posts on their forum they said "as many PCs as you personally control"
I think you'll be fine. These are great programs, especially at this price point.
*edit: just saw your update about five, but one of the replies also said that was an old limit that was removed so I'm not sure if that's still accurate.
So it seems like if Photoshop Essentials (very old version) is what I used to use, Affinity Photo more than covers my bases? The other two programs look more oriented towards professional artists or people composing publications, signs, designs. I used to use Photoshop (the full version) a long time ago, so sounds like Affinity Photo will be a good upgrade from Essentials?

All of this is correct. Sounds like you would be set with just Affinity Photo. The other two are similar to Illustrator and InDesign which it seems you don't need.
The affinity software suite has replaced adobe for my design businesses. It does everything I need it to do. Have to relearn where tools and shortcuts are but it's worth it for NO RECURRING MONTHLY SOFTWARE PAYMENTS. I really like the layout of the software. Must buy in my opinion if you are remotely interested.
Great programs so long as you aren't collaborating with lots of other pros (in which case others will likely expect you to have Adobe). I have both this and Adobe and find Affinity easier, but Adobe a bit more complete.
