After reading the questions on Amazon; I found that this unit has 775 clamping voltage.
Most of the good ones have less than 500 volts and the top of the line are 330v.

Joules only refers to how many hits it can take, not how well it protects.
If the clamping voltate is 775 (as stated); then this leaves a lot to be desired.

or this one which has slightly better/lower clamping voltage: https://www.amazon.com/APC-10-Out...079BPZ6PY/

Btw, I have the one you linked for the past three years and the 9 port too. Good quality units with nice features (like rotating cord and light indicator if no longer protecting against surge). Using the USB ports daily to charge my iPhone without issues. I only recently learned through SD about clamping voltage and while the unit is 400V, the P10U2 is 330V so better given it should clamp sooner if you have such a large surge. If you don't need USB ports, AmazonBasics [amazon.com]sells the same one (they're all just rebading the same, even monoprice sells the same) but while better, the looks/feels generic but spec-wise it's better for those high surge times.

Neither. Go with monoprice if you want a surge protector. Monoprice VPR/clamp voltage is 330V. Lower is better. APC is unpublished and suggested is around 400. Some indicate on Amazon that Anker is 700V which is a letter thru a lot (relative to competing products) to your equipment.

I saw that comment as well. If VPR is indeed 775, it is a horrible surge protector.

Go to https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15874 and click on Full Specs to pull up a table of various models and clamping voltage.

I searched through them already. They're pretty expensive though. A 4000 joules with 400 clamp village is like$35

If the need is a power strip, then Anker is fine. But if the need is for a surge protector, this Anker is an inferior product not just to monoprice but well below average offerings if clamp is indeed 775V.

Even this $10 wall tap clamps down at 400V.
