Not sure why this got thumbed down as "Not a good price".

The i5-10600K is (inexplicably IMHO) front page at Best Buy at $55 more:

The i9-10900K is listed as a popular deal at Microcenter at $30 more:

these are great deals. for midrange cpus (for gaming only), the 10600k is a much better bang for buck at $175 than the 5600x is at $300.

I have the Asus Prime Z490-P and like it. Good middle of the pack mobo. OC's the 10600k to 4.5ghz right out of the box without issue and XMP is one click. Applause

Cool

Got Microcenter near you?

I got the 10850K for $350 few weeks ago. Using 128GB memory and 3 NvME, I can run 4 virtual machine and host with no problem.

It most likely got thumbed down bc you have to spend a ton extra on a mb to be able to overclock it. If you buy a mb that doesn't allow you to overclock it you might as well just get a 10400
the 10400 boost clock is 4.3ghz, vs the 10600k at 4.8ghz. so even without overclocking, there's a significant amount of performance upgrade. even with a relatively cheaper z board, you can get some mild OC that will increase the gap.

also, considering the price difference is much smaller now between the two, it's the 10400 that actually doesn't make as much sense.

Don't forget you need to spend at least $30 for a cheap cooler with the 10600k. The Intel i5-10400 and AMD 5600x come bundled with a cooler. It's still a great deal, though!

Question for ya'll.

From a monetary perspective, this is $175 but you still have to buy a CPU cooler. At Microcenter, they have the Intel Core i7-10700F for $230 which includes an intel CPU cooler. The 10700F is more powerful than the 10600K and when you include the price of a CPU cooler ($30), it's only a $15 difference.

Am I missing something here or is the 10700F just an insane deal right now for $230?

There's no way the stock intel cooler can be valued at $30. Try closer to $5.

If you're not interested in overclocking and/or integrated graphics, then yes the 10700F is probably the better way to go.

Also, many people don't have microcenter as an option.

What kind of cooler is it? Because if it's the generic intel cooler that ships with every cpu, you probably have to replace it anyways.

I tried using the stock intel cooler on a a 10400 and it got way too hot, had to buy a new cooler anyways

10600k barely beats the 10400f without overclock and considering u need to spend extra money on a mb to be able to overclock 10600k and it costs more than a 10400f, which I have seen get as low as 130$, the 10400f is still the better choice for the majority of people

Virtually everyone buying a 10600k is going to OC it so aftermarket is all but required so including a cooler is a huge meh and imo, shouldn't be included in whether a CPU is a deal or not.

The 10700f isn't OC'able...but it is still a good deal at $230 for getting into octacore CPU territory.
