At the end of the day, they both work exactly the same. Pellets are fed into a firebox, ignited, and then stoked with a fan. There is no way you are getting the same sear on your SmokeFire as on that searbox. Smokefire is rated up to 600, sear box is rated up to 900 and you have the benefit of being able to have it at full temp instead of ramping up your heat when you are done smoking.
Yes.
4 sounds about right!
And my name is not Sam.
As for this specific pellet smoker, I do not recommend it.
I think the better option is a Slide and Grill version if cooking few items.
All the newer models of higher end pellet grills have a version of Slide and Grill where you get flame broiling when you want it.
For the pellet grill, I mainly cook by smoke ribs, butt, and brisket. I smoke burgers, too. I've never had a need to flame broil. If so, I use my NG grill, and if you need to for a lot of burgers or steaks, then the grill is superior to the pellet smoker.

Personally I don't think the pellet grill adds enough smoke flavor to the longer smoke items like butt or briskets so I do them on the stick smoker for 8 to 12 hours and then move them over to the pellet smoker to finish them off. Most people are satisfied with the smoke flavor from a pellet but it just doesn't do it for me. I usually smoke way more meat than the family will eat so I usually take some to a couple of my coworkers that really like it. The one time I did the entire cook on the pellet grill they all asked if I had done something different because the meat just wasn't as good as usual, it was lacking the good smoke flavor mine always has.

I never had issues with my pellet. Maybe the brand? For the pellet, I use Traeger's blend from Costco because it is versatile (and I don't have to change the hopper).
I originally smoked pork ribs with the 3-2-1 method, and found it WAY TOO smoky in flavor.
Granted, I do not have experience smoking with anything other than a pellet grill.
I have a smoke box for wood chips in my gas grill.
It does fine for quick items like steaks and finishing off ribs.
Best smoke chips I've used were the Jack Daniels barrel chips. I loved that flavor on steaks and ribs. Today, I just use mesquite chips for cow and hickory chips for pigas they're cheap and readily available.
