Wondering how to spend 4000$ in 3 months. Can i purchase amazon doordash gift card and it will count towards 4000$ to spend to get the bonus points??

It is quite easy. I use credit cards for absolutely everything and so 1 to 2,000 a month is pretty basic. Even my utilities go on my credit card. Some municipals don't do that but in my city I can.

You can advance pay your gas, electric, phone etc. I have cut down my income tax withholding to bare minimum and use credit cards to pay estimated taxes every quarter.

Do you know if i cancel my reserve but still have freedom flex in the same account, I would still be eligible for bonus point 48 months after cancelling my reserve?

You're eligible for a new Sapphire bonus 48 months after you got your last sapphire bonus.

When you opened or closed the card is irrelevant (other than you can't have one CURRENTLY open when you apply again)

We used to have sapphire, and also we closed that card 4 years ago, about 50 months. But there was also a Sapphire reserve that we closed almost 48 month ago.... I think about 46. Does chase count the 48 months for exactly the same card type? We also had Southwest 2 years ago and got our bonuses then... Is that an issue?

Do they charge the $95 fee the first year?
Yes, almost immediately upon approval.

My application was approved 3/30. I was charged the $95 fee on 4/1.

Didn't know "pay yourself back" was ending soon. EDIT: Derp. I thought pyb was the same thing as cashing out points. I kept reading the thread and see that it's a special benefit for csr. my question below still stands though.

I'm sitting on 300k points with the expectation of opening a sapphire reserve when my 48 months expire (it may have expired already bc I got in on the last month of the 100k points - was that Jan 2017?) and getting the 1.5x on travel.

It sounds like I may be better off taking the cash at 1x and not risking a points devaluation.
Quote from HoldOnTightly :
The Sapphire Preferred is only a 25% bonus when redeemed for travel. So $1000 only when redeemed for travel using the Chase portal.

The Sapphire Reserve is the one that has a 50% bonus. But that bonus is only worth $600 x 1.5 = $900. And again, that's only if redeemed for travel or using Pay Yourself Back, which is scheduled to stop at the end of April.

Pay yourself back is a great way to get an extra 25% back. Currently works on groceries, restaurants, and one other category. I think that's good through the and of this month.
"Pay Yourself Back" program has been extended through September 2021.

So you pay a fee to pay taxes via CC?

However you can get up to $1600 of value by transferring to other travel partners.
I am planning a couple of international trips. Can you help pointing me to the best resource for determining how to get the most value from these points through travel partners.

Need some advice. I have a Chase Freedom opened in 2004 & Chase Sapphire opened in 2005. The Chase branch staff said I could not get the 80K points promotion as I already had a card from the Sapphire family.
They said I could close this card & apply for Chase Sapphire Preferred in one month. Would closing the card which is open since 2005 affect my credit history. Any advice?

Closing any single credit card usually won't affect your credit score very much, especially if you have a fair number of open accounts (say 15 to 20, where the loss of one credit card's credit limit has little impact on the aggregate credit limit total). That's because the credit card history will remain on your report for another seven years.

Presumably, if you maintain your flock of credit cards, then their combined age history will improve before the loss of the single credit card has a significant effect on your credit score.

If you're in the habit of constantly closing out credit cards, then I assume that you're aware of how such a practice impacts credit scores. It reduces total credit limit, which directly impacts percentage of credit usage. It also leads to relative young credit history.

I've closed four or five accounts at one time with very little impact on my 800+ credit score. But that was back when I carried 40 to 50 credit cards. Currently, I carry only 30 credit cards.

Sign-up bonuses, increases your credit limit which decreases your credit utilization, increases your average age of credit cards quicker in the long run. 30 is too much but credit cards can be used to your advantage so there's really no risk in it if you know how to game the system.

I had to call a couple of times (and had to ask for a supervisor) to be able to get the details on when the rewards last posted on my account. As has been mentioned before on the forum, this is information as the key date is the rewards credit date not the card application date. I am ok for the 4 years for the account open date but have to waited another 2.5 months to be eligible for the card since the reward posted on my account on 6/24/17. Hoping the offer will be alive till then.

The first 2 customer service reps kept insisting that the information is not available on their system (has been purged out) since I had closed in the card in 2018 and give some ridiculous fax number to request this information. I asked to speak to a Supervisor who was able to access the information and confirm the dates. I guess, if anyone needs this information and gets turned down - dont give up.
