Average price since November 2017 = $130.54
Highest price = $144.49
Lowest price = $99.99 in 2019

*According to the chart, it really hasn't gone under $127.49 in a long time which is surprising because of black friday and xmas sales. It looks like a good value when you look at the competitors, the very high customer ratings, no excessive fillers, metal latches with the case, etc.. Comparing this against the Craftsman, Husky, Kobalt and Harbor Freight and it looks like a good value for what you get. This is currently priced similar to the Craftsman Versastack 216 piece ($199.99) that is on sale now. Right now Home Depot has a SMALL 125 piece Husky mechanic set for $119 retail. Harbor Freight 225 piece Pittsburgh mechanic set costs $140 right now. Can this $127.49 tool set compete with the Craftsman, Kobalt and Husky $200 retail 200 piece sets? The very high rating user reviews think so.

Seemed like an awesome deal until someone pulled out the stats. Thanks!

It just doesn't go on sale according to the stats. I compared it to the competitors (Craftsman, Kobalt, Harbor Freight, Husky, etc.). What you get VS the competitors. This is priced similar to the 216 piece Craftsman Versastack (retail $199.99) that is on sale now..... I never tried DeWalt mechanics tool set but users love it.

I have Craftsman, Kobalt and Harbor Freight mechanic hand tools. I consider myself Craftsman (USA) fan mostly but I do like Kobalt and Harbor Freight as well but Craftsman (USA) is my go to set. I never tried the newer Lowe's Craftsman yet. I surprisingly don't have Husky mechanic tool sets. I have plenty DeWalt power tools (big fan of their power tools) but never tried their mechanic tool sets..... I am looking at this DeWalt tool set pieces and it looks quite impressive. Everything you need without the fluff. I read the DeWalt mechanic tool set user reviews too on Amazon and Home Depot and they are very favorable.

In the last year it has seldom gone above the current price (which is available from a number of sources). I don't mean this as slam OP, but this is SlickDeals, not "Everyday Normal Price Deals".

I like this but for some reason keep going back to the Craftsman 150 piece gunmetal chrome set from lowes. Currently $149. Not really worried about Dewalt vs Craftsman because the truth is these are meant to be a general purpose set for random stuff. I think either brand will hold up just fine and both have lifetime warranty. I also want something a little bit lighter and more portable. Event the 150 Craftsman is a bit heavy but I have compared it to a lot of other Dewalt and Craftsman sets and it seems to have the best variety of useful tools with no garbage. I always look for sets with combination wrenches.. to me it just makes sense to have some in a general purpose kit.. if you need to hold a nut or something.. but a lot of people for some reason say they are pointless to have in a kit like this. The craftsman seems to have the most actual sockets compared to other kits with similar piece count. IMO dewalt tends to pack more junk/filler in "most" of their sets.

EDIT: This is the Craftsman that has my eye..

The Craftsman ratchets are 120 tooth and the Dewalt are 72 tooth - BUT, you can't open the Craftsman ratchets to re-lube or maintain them (or at least I could not see a way )

That is a nice Craftsman set. I am a very long time Craftsman fan (USA and China). The advantage of that set is the 120 tooth ratchets. I never felt the need to have such a precise ratchet and I am a believer that more teeth means less torque power. Less teeth means larger tooth to "grip" so a little tooth can wear out over longer period of time but it feels quite nice. I do have some 72 and 90 teeth ratchets (Craftsman and Kobalt) and they do feel quite nice and precise though........ As for junk fillers, I don't see much junk fillers in the DeWalt set or that Craftsman set. 30 screwdriver bits in the DeWalt isn't bad at all especially because one will need to use screwdriver bits at times. Only 15 hex keys is quite low in that Craftsman set and could definitely be a issue where you need to buy another hex key set. Lot of people assume hex keys are junk fillers but it is very important and I use them so much. A good 40 piece hex key set is like $20. It gets laughable and ridiculous when you see like +70 screwdriver bits in some tool sets like those sold by Craftsman at Sears. If getting a Craftsman brand is a high priority, I would prefer the Craftsman Versastack 216 piece over the Craftsman 150 piece gunmetal chrome set as it has more pieces (not much fillers), $30 cheaper and has storage space. Versastack looks odd to me but users seem to like it and the storage space is definitely useful.

Can you lube the regular newer version Craftsman 72 tooth ratchet sold by Lowes?

I think he was referring to the older Craftsman units had an oil hole on the top.

Sorry about that.

I thought when he said "newer version" he meant the current version.
