I went to Hamer Toyota and they had balls to mark those up 3k plus 1k gps add-on. Came to $56.5k with no negotiation because stimulus money is here and dealers wants it all. Sad state

Hydrogen Fuel cell is exempt from CA rebate income limits.

"The income cap applies for all eligible vehicle types except fuel-cell electric vehicles."

Yes, I believe so as I asked the person as CRVP to confirm. I highly recommend you all them as they do pick up the phone and very responsive.
Thank you. So, the CVRP rebate limit is for per person? and not per household? We will get the rebate if my wife applies for it with both our names on registration?

Please correct me if I'm wrong. For me to receive full tax credits, I need to owe that much of tax, correct? 8K Federal and 4.5K CA?

If my taxes are 5K Federal and 3K CA, is that how much I'll be getting?

many factors come to pay here. if you are an uber driver it may be a great deal, for others the breakeven point may make this deal not a great deal.

factors to consider:
  • maintenance cost
  • repair cost
  • pars cost
  • if you live near the fueling station
  • if you never travel anyplace outside of the fuel cell radius
  • if technology fails in 5 years, you just spent a lot of $ on nothing

too much risk to get your investment back unless you drive a lot, and have a station next to you.
It has a great warranty:

Basic: 36 months/36,000 miles (all components other than normal wear and maintenance items).
Fuel-Cell-System-Related Component Coverage: Fuel Cell System components, including
the Battery ECU, FC Air Compressor, FC Boost Converter, FC ECU, H2 tanks, FC PCU (Power
Control Unit), FC System, HF ECU (H2 Fueling ECU), and Power Management ECU (HV ECU).
Powertrain: 60 months/60,000 miles (engine, transmission/transaxle, drive system,
seatbelts and airbags).
Rust-Through: 60 months/unlimited miles (corrosion perforation of sheet metal).
Emissions: Coverages vary under Federal and California regulations. Refer to applicable
Warranty and Maintenance Guide for details.
FC Battery: FC battery is covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles

You'll get the $4.5k from California and $5k back from federal.

Toyota does after an extended warranty on the Mirai for 96m/100K for $2.18K. I am on the fence about keeping it as I have 60days to cancel and get a full refund.

I intended to cancel it but as I drive it more, the more I just enjoy driving it.
What does it cover?

Correct on Federal Tax, Wrong on CA. $4.5k CA is a rebate, nothing to do with CA tax. There are some requirements, check WIKI for info.

36 months is a nice way of saying -3 years, average American drives more than 36K miles . . . so you are looking at 2 years only. but because it's a toyota i would add 5+ years.

regardless of that, even if you take the risk factor out of the car, you still have a risk that 2-5 years from now you may not have any stations available (or still very limited).

My boss used to work with a company at, mti, they did small power packs for things like cellphones. Great military applications but far from economical. But sometimes money is no object. As the tech advances in general, it will open up many consumer level avenues. Unfortunately and fortunately, Elon is dominating the ev scene. Fuel cells typical need a small battery buffer anyway. Hopefully Elon deals with the rare earth mining and refines the battery tech otherwise we're starting wars in other countries all over again over raw materials.
we don't have to worry about wars, for the next 3.5 years. besides quantity of oil has never been an issue (it was a big propaganda made up by oil companies)

Fair but pushing better tech to its limits for mankind is what interests me more.

i am all pro that too, but i am also not into shiny things. let's be real, the Mirai is a prototype, just like Prius Gen1 it will have engineering issues. the advantage of the Prius is that all only had to focus on the engineering, the Mirai has to focus on the engineering and infrastructure. in contrast to the EV infrastructure, hydrogen infrastructure is going to cost much more, and users have to other alternative (like charging from home).

5 years from now i will consider it again, but at this point this deal is only good for uber type drives in the SF area.

thats so wrong.

Any comparable ICE car to this (an ecobox) will get 38-40mpg.

50k miles of gas us 3500 bucks, even if you pretend that the majority of those 50,000 miles is city it wouldn't come close to your figure. I mean, maybe in the great state of California though. What are you paying for gas now? 7 bucks?
You realize that the current gas price is $4.00/gal in at least on of the two Mirai's market, right? And that the cost to fill up a 5kg tank of H2 in the Mirai is about $75 to go 400mi. Numbers will vary depending on your market, driving habits, and individual car's fuel efficiency.
Quote from PyRo1509 :
For #2: hydrogen will never be cheap and unless there's a huge political shift it won't be green. The cheapest way to make hydrogen is by natural gas that produces CO2. The greenest but most expensive way is by solar panels, which the process losses 50% of the energy, thus will always cost at least 2x (this is if storage and transportation was free, it will never be) of BEV. Hydrogen is a bad energy storage solution for cars (and nearly everything else).
Quote :
As for not knowing many who are full BEV; Hello, nice to meet you. I've got two Tesla's and no gas car. One with 110k miles and the other with 40k. I've driven them across the country. Stayed at Airbnb's. I'm not going to lie and say everything is the same as a gas car. But on the long trips where there's been a few inconveniences it's been outweighed by not having to fill up the gas tank biweekly.
Hmm...Did you forget about the long lines for Tesla Superchargers during the 2019 holiday travels? Perhaps there are more Superchargers now. Or, what would you have done had you travel through Texas in Feb of this year? Or, when PG&E turns off the power during the fire season?
