What do people do with these massive hdds? Most of the movies are streamed online now, all I can think of is to use it as a backup drive for photos.
Torrents?
When you have collected full TV series sets, this adds up fast. 1 hour per episode, 24 episodes per year, 10 years, high quality blu-ray. That's a single TV show. So why not just stream them? Because quite a few shows are no longer available for streaming. Not a problem anymore. But that's me. Smilie

Yep Torrents, I got switch nsp games, ps4 pkg games, movies (4k movies eat up space) and tv shows. Currently 3.5TB free/12.7TB Bought same model from bestbuy last November.

8 bay NAS that is full - 2 8s, 2 10s, 2 12s, and 2 14s. I put all my blurays onto them. Very easy to chew up all that space.

I'm in for one. I'll get rid of an 8tb drive. I don't do RAID so no I don't need to buy a pair. My data is not critical. I can afford to lose it as I can redo anything with the original blus.

If you want a 2 ms response streaming service with privately secured cloud storage and VM's, this is what large drives are for.

Also, what that other guy said about censorship isn't wrong. Try finding Pirates of the Carribean on Netflix. Or try watching a tv program while traveling. Geographic censorship will vanish half your library with a 6 hour flight.

Drats. It's too late to cancel the 12TB I bought earlier this week.

First I hear this. These drives have always been shuckable in the past. I have several.
Probably someone that can't figure out the pin mod that is needed to get it to power up. I just pop the pin off on my drives.

You can't stream Blu-ray quality movies with DTS MA audio anywhere... I have a 20k home theater I'm not wasting it on Netflix crap with tin can audio.

Ditto. My entire home theater was more than $70k and nothing irks me more than streaming Netflix on my 1st gen Fire Stick. Even my personal popcorn assistant can tell the difference and he's half-deaf.

Not too much into streaming. Just basic photo and video storage use. I have a DS920+. How many should I pick to make a shuckable NAS drive at a minimum? 2 or 3?

WD uses proprietary boards on these HDDs so people can't shuck them and use them in a desktop.

In other words boycott this anti-consumer bullshit.
This is entirely inaccurate.
