10/10 would buy again. I've used it once.
I jumped on the $299 for the string trimmer + hedge trimmer attachment deal that came with a rapid charger and 8.0 Ah battery (https://slickdeals.net/f/14950253-milwaukee-m18-string-trimmer-hedge-trimmer-8-0ah-battery-charger-299-99) because I primarily needed those two attachments, and need more batteries anyway (I heard these outdoor tools eat up battery power like no tomorrow). I'll have to sell the charger (or it isn't a big deal to have a spare) and that's easier that selling off attachments, IMO.
The string trimmer + edger attachment version of the same $299 deal made it to the FP too (https://slickdeals.net/f/14945429-milwaukee-m18-fuel-18v-string-trimmer-w-edger-attachment-8-0ah-battery-303-more-free-shipping).
Milwuakee might be pushing harder on promotions for their outdoor power equipment (OPE) now that summer is rolling around.

I didn't think I wanted cordless stuff.. but several times with the chainsaw and now the string trimmer, I've gone ahead and done some quick work I might have saved for a bigger effort because there was none of the fuel hassle/ warmup/ noise/ etc.
If maintenance costs are a replacement battery every couple years (or a new toy.. er.. kit!), I'll consider it savings.
Compound loppers, then saturate the cut end with 20% roundup mix (use an old water bottle and drill a hole in the cap).
Or use a mattock and dig them out.
I've owned a pair of the non-"Quick-lok" M18 trimmers for a couple years now.
These came with the HD 9.0Ah batteries.
Initially performance was STELLAR!
However, over time, performance has degraded significantly.
Please note that these are fairly lightly used units that have been properly maintained.
On warmer days (70 deg. F or more), after several minutes of use, trigger action becomes unstable. Sometimes, it takes many rapid presses of the trigger before I can get the units to operate.
Under intense loads (fairly high ambient temperatures + significant weeds/brush), the batteries may overheat, and the battery level LEDs begin to flash in what may be described as a "panic" pattern.
Under such circumstances, the only solution seems to be to allow the equipment to cool down, then resume operations. Simply swapping batteries improves things, but still does not provide the expected reprieve. The motor simply needs a breather.
I recently purchased a pair of the High Output HD 12.0Ah batteries.
Things are significantly better (pointing at improved performance over the 9.0 batteries), but again, ambient temperatures matter.
With continued use, the sketchy trigger behavior surfaces. I'm convinced that the native temperature sensor in these trimmers degrades fairly quickly.
When these issues surface, I personally do not consider the trimmer's motor casing to be alarmingly warm/hot...
In addition, my use-case has not changed over the course of ownership.
I only use these tools on my single personal property, and this has remained constant.
I've been considering taking my chances and disabling/bypassing the temperature protection on the trimmer motor (if possible)...

Why can't they offer a battery combo?
There's no milwaukee mower on the horizon and m18 will be dated before then

They make it intentionally difficult to reach the exact price points, but it's a decent value if you need a good high amp battery.
Sduser posted a link for the HD item on the 1st page. $300, but it comes with an edger.
