If you want to game, it's better to spend the extra $50 on the $600 HP that Walmart has.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-Pav.../943933730

They are a Ryzen 3500 (6-core) with a GTS 1650 Super. A 1650 Super is roughly twice the graphical performance of a 5700G.

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Com...5260vs4058

It looks like Walmart's website sells out of these very quickly and only 3rd party sellers are listed there. But if you can find them at your local store they are sold for $599.

good price, but not standard motherboard or powersupply. If psu goes out you have to buy replacement from HP.
YOu can't even add a dedicated gpu. I tried to find an upgrade path with a more powerful power PSU in HP sight. Nada. The mobo is B550A Codename Erica. You can only add one drive. No dual monitors, unless you use vga. REALLY? One Samsung DDR4 generic 32000 mhz; I did Cinebench. It beat, believe it or not Intel 10th gen i7, i9-9700, in multi core, it failed miserably in single core. And I only used real puny two sticks of 2666 vengeance corsair. It's going back. Like someone said, for office and perhaps some decent encoding great. I wish it had the two channels, and allowed for adding a graphics card... You really have to lower the specs to medium in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

I was also wondering this. Was gonna throw my older NVIDIA card in if it fit but it looks like a small case.
Nope. You will need another power supply with the pci-e plug. it also has bad ventilation. Perhaps, buy a low end amd, swap it, sell it.

Has anyone who owns this had any luck booting from usb? I have a windows 10 pro install I've never had trouble with and I can't get the machine to recognize at boot.

Anyone already have this and know the exact manufacturer/model/timing of the existing 16gb DDR4-32000 that's already in there? If the prices are close I'd like to find an identical stick.

HP does sell compatible power supplies

500 watt L05757-800 for $116
400 watt L04718-800 for $79
Go to HP Spare Parts [hp.com] and search for the parts number

That said, i agree with you that buying a new computer then immediately upgrading it doesn't make any sense. It'll be better to just buy a computer that meet your need.

A year or 2 ago I got this model with the Ryzen 7-3700X. Same RAM, same SSD, plus a 1TB HDD and an inexpensive video card (because the X series CPUs don't have built in graphics).

I love this computer. I don't game and really can't without a better video card, but if you just want a super-quiet, very quick, problem-free computer, mine is just that and I'd wager this one will be, too.

Suggestion 1: Assuming everything seems to work after you set it up and use it a while, I'd recommend doing a clean install of Windows 10 - before you install all your stuff and spend hours tweaking everything. Some of the preinstalled HP stuff is mildly annoying. I didn't do that, and it isn't a big deal, but I wish I had.

Suggestion 2: I was going to upgrade the SSD to a bigger one, but decided to live with this one for a while. I put a bigger spinner in it for all my music, videos, pics, books and documents. The 256GB SSD is doing just fine. You may find that it's plenty good enough if you add a data drive that you probably have lying around.

Gonna have to redo my desk since this is small enough to set on desk vs old mid tower which was sitting on the bottom of a printer table.

I read it has 1 slot for 2.5hd but two free sata ports or was that including the dvd? If so I wondered if two thin ssd's would fit velcro'd in there as data drives? Just got back from picking mine up. I plan to go straight to manjaro linux but will likely use a 512gb I have and keep the 256gb for "backup". I've found with linux a 256gb or 512gb works fine for just about anything...I have a dual HD dock that uses usb 3.0 (5Gbps) which is fine for data.

I picked one of these up yesterday, and can also confirm 4k60hz works with no chroma subsampling. It seems the port is indeed HDMI 2.0.

Does this have a DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort in the back?

According to the spec, the HDMI 1.4b port won't drive my 4k monitor @60hz.
I bought one and can confirm that it *can* do 4k at 60p...but only with WCG/Deep Color/UHD color disabled (Ycc420). Typing this on the Pavilion connected to my TV right now.

There are 2 open SATA ports--one with a *free* cable, one without a cable. You may be able to jimmy a 2nd SATA drive between the slim DVD and the drive cage (need to open it up again and look.)

If anyone else who bought one is replacing the included 16GB dimm with a matched pair, I'd be interested in buying the stock dimm.

so I was going to grab this and swap the 5700g into my main rig and put my old 3600 in the HP and use it as a dedicated server. Aparently the bios has locked out this option. Has anyone found a work around?

Did you check to see if there are any bios updates? How exactly did you identify the bios "has locked out this option?" I'm not doubting you...just want to know if the system is locked to that cpu and that cpu alone.

The bios is locked to any 5000g series cpu despite it being a b550 chipset

I'm pretty sure I got a free after rebate bracket around here somewhere that fits two ssd's into a 2.5" hd slot...will have to dig through some boxes.
