Intel Core i5-11400F is 18,000 passmarks.
Ryzen 5600X is 22,100 passmarks.
There's a reason it is cheaper. It is 23% slower.
Whether either is a deal depends on your workload. The 5600X doesn't include a GPU of any sort. That could be important, since most Core i5 include an iGPU which is more than sufficient for most non-gamer people.
If your workload is containers or virtual machines, then the Ryzen is better, by far. More threads, cores, matter.
Spend some time here https://www.cpubenchmark.net/ looking at the relative performance for different CPUs. Often, we I graph performance vs price, the result is a straight line, but sometimes 1 or 2 of the CPUs will be cheaper than they should - that's when it is a deal. Last fall, the Ryzen 3100 was underpriced about 20% - which I wasn't greedy and bought it then.
Microcenter has been selling CPUs lower than cost for a number of years to get people into the store. Once inside, we seem to always buy some other overpriced stuff, so they make a profit. Even that stupid $1.50 soda in the checkout line which costs them $0.25 is profit.
I'm just happy to have 2 Microcenters in the metro area. Used to drive passed one daily before I started telecommuting. Heavy traffic on a Friday has cost me $$$$$ in there. I'd go in for a book and come out with a full computer.
I don't game so spending any $ on a GPU isn't something that interests me.
Just happy to have a Ryzen 2600 ($150) from 2.5 yrs ago. Wish I'd have picked up another Ryzen to replace a Core i5 and Pentium G. 1 Ryzen would easily replace both those systems, saving power. The hard part would be connecting 14 HDDs.
I'll be staying on AM4 as long as possible.
I've never had issues getting stuff at Microcenter. Just order for pick-up, then wait for the "Ready" email. Much better than BB, which seems to make me wait 45 min in their "pick up" line - then they have to go pull the thing from the back.
From a quick look up the 3600 versus 5600X is about 5 to 10% in games, And that's with a 3080 GPU. The difference is going to be marginal at best with a 2060.
Games don't rely too much on cpu so to use games as a measurement of cpu's full capabilities is not valid.
Wish could get deals on the 3800xt still, too lazy to upgrade my mobo too
It is AM4, so, should be good as long as your BIOS (UEFI) is updated (check with your MB manufacturer to make sure). I think they are making it a point to not do the whole chipset change with each CPU release now.

Not arguing if the 5600x is good, It clearly is about 30% faster than the 3600, but It also costs 30% more msrp vs msrp. In a perfect world with no covid and no supply chain shortages, this should be about a $200-220. The tier stack should move down after 2 years, not up.

you need to look at 1080p gaming if you want to see gaming performance difference. At higher resolution performance heavily shifts towards how the GPU performs. https://youtu.be/rTUqd0SUIgI?t=617
At 1080p according to above video it's ~24% faster on average over a 3600. At 1440p it's around 14% faster.

This simply won't be true until intel actually gives them some competition.

Not sure what comparisons you are making. 11400f does not have an iGPU and has the same core and thread count as the 5600x.
Sign up for EVGA notify list. It's basically a no charge upfront pre-order for any graphics cards on their website. They send you link to order the card when it's your turn. Don't expect to get a 3080 anytime soon, but 3060 cards shouldn't be too bad. I signed up on release date for a 3060 and just received it yesterday.
i signed up for every 3080-3090 on that site on launch days and have still yet to get a single email.
