Great knife, real wood side panel (rosewood I think), super sharp, very good blade metal, and Made in USA!
The heat treat matters more than the steel, for the most part. Properly heat treated 420 is a fine EDC steel and easy to touch up. S30V holds an edge longer, but is much much more annoying to sharpen.
They also have the Buck 119 for $47.63 !

Actually it has some proprietary heat treatment and conpares to good sandvik
I've had a Buck in my tool box forever. It has cut, pried and scraped for years and still sharpens like new relatively easily. I expect it will endure many more years of use/abuse. Quality heat treating is the secret to a good knife blade.

I remember having a similar locking mechanism fail on me in my younger years (I was probably misusing it). Going to stick with my Kershaws and crkt with liner/frame lock
for every failed backlock I've seen dozens of failed liner locks.

I've had no issues with lock failures on Kershaw or CRKT knives. They tend to make good value knives with some interesting designs. I think I had some lock integrity issues with a CRKY M16 but honestly that's probably because the screws kept coming loose. A little threadlock will take care of it if I see it again.

There have been plenty of destructive tests against many popular knife models, the 110 does quite well. OTOH, the Onion and Hinderer Kershaws and ZTs hold up quite well, and most of the CRKTs do, too. (I like that CRKT does more experimenting with lock styles. Their snap lock, while I'm not sure about its strength, is a slick way to open and lock a knife - they have numerous other mods and innovations in that area. That's one thing I'd like to see more out of Kershaw).

Anyway, use what works. If you're used to those brands, you'd probably find the Buck rather heavy. They've used the same design for 60 years and while they may exist, I've never seen one with skeletonized liners or any other attempt to save weight. Weighs damn near half a pound. I carry multiple knives every day and combined they may weigh less than that one knife despite beign a similar length. There is plenty of steel to keep that lock solid but honestly unless I'm already wearing heavyish clothes with a belt, it's going to be annoying.

It's one of the all-time best-known folding knives, and for good reason. Durable, good at doing what knives should do, nice looking, a good size for people that want to carry a full-sized folder. It also was one of the first ever locking folder designs to make it to market.

OTOH, it is heavyish and that may not work for everyone. I wouldn't expect a pair of elastic shorts to stay up with this thing in a pocket. I believe it's heavier than most cellphones (though there are surely exceptions like phablet-sized models).

It's worth keeping something like this around if you like knives and it will hold up well over time. This is a good price, not unheard of, but good. It would be hard to beat most of the time. I have a clone of it that I think is a fine knife. I just prefer newer designs with one-hand opening (and closing, if possible). Almost everyone who holds this likes it, so you're unlikely to regret it.

Wow, that is a solid deal. Great knife. I first saw one about 25 years ago and I was really impressed by the design and build quality. Might just buy one.

They stopped using Rosewood in 2019 and went back to Ebony.

I wish this was the updated version with the pocket clip. Either way great knife.

My dad gave me this knife, he carried it on his belt for many many years while at work, He handed it down to me when he retired and I have field dressed a lot of deer with the same knife decades later. I bought another to have two but for this price it's a no brainer to get one for a gift for christmas or something. My only problem was the crease that the blade folds into to close got gunked up with deer fat and it didn't take much before the knife would close but the tip wouldn't be all the way recessed due to the little gunk and could and would bite yuh

I'm pretty sure this is the Walmart SKU or version. Notice the part number with 'WM'.

Agreed.

WAY too heavy to carry. If I'm putting anything on my belt and its that heavy it's gonna be a multi-tool.

Not super easy to open and close either.

I LOVE that it's made in 🇺🇸 but better options at this price point.

Btw you can't compare this to the Bugout. It's got S30V steel, not a lock back and is almost triple the price (~ $100)
On the weight I agree, it is a little heavy and if you don't need heavy duty (a knife heavy enough to use as a hammer as some have said) then there is an alternative. Buck makes the Buck 110 Lite which is amazingly light. They make a slim model too but in my opinion it's a little pricey but it has a pocket clip - yehaw. The Buck 110 lite is the same form factor and same blade (steel composition and size but unpolished) as the traditional Buck 110 but a fraction of the weight. You won't even remember that you are carrying it on your belt. I've even carried it in my pocket and it's so light I forget it's there. Pretty sweet find if you LOVE the 110 but HATE the weight of it. Oh ya and the Buck 110 Lite is 20 bucks so...cheaper too.

They're great knives that are absolutely a classic, but I'd have to disagree with you on the blade steel. They still use 420HC (what's used on most cheap Chinese pocket knives) on all but their limited run knives. It's not a horrible steel, but there are much better budget steels out now. Get with the times, Buck! That said, I still own one 😝.
You saying a $35 Chinese quality blade??!?!

The 110 is not made from Chinese steel. It is 420HC cut and processed through the plant plus Paul Bos Heat treated. It's very strong.

Isn't this the regular in-store price? almost grabbed one last year but passed on it cause I couldn't get a sales clerk to come to knife display case, but I remember it was $35.
